Where is it? Dan Savage wants to know. I'm going to say Macrina or North Hill Bakery (they have a six-inch one right now—not as big as Dan might like, but...).
Hiroki Bakery on N. 65th Street near Elysian Brewery in Tangletown makes a great carrot cake. Not too sweet, great cake-to-frosting ratio, and you can drool over the other desserts while waiting in line.

Hi spot cafe in Madrona has a really good carrot cake with apples... and we had one at Vio's on 19th last week that was amazing! Oddfellow's cupcake is purty good too...
i think the carrot cake at PCC in the bakery case, behind the counter is NOT vegan, the vegan stuff is in the square tray out on the tables, and it SUCKS compared to the nonvegan version. Vegan cake tasted like wood with sugar
to add to what I said @21 -- it doesn't have raisins, which is important to me. I also don't have any clue if the same company that uses that space in the West Seattle Metropolitian Market exists at others around the city, sorry. But seriously, it's so good that I might just drop a cake off by the Stranger offices just so you give it a shot!

I second the one at PCC. The non-vegan. I'm the sort of person who has a hard time dealing with sweet things that lack chocolate, but this is one of the best pieces of cake I've ever had, of any variety. Make sure you get it out of the little plastic boxes (which in Fremont are to the left of the sandwiches), not out of the general dessert case (things get stale in there), and with a pack date no further back than the day before. It will astound you, I believe.
