and if he had appointed a straight man, Mr. Savage, your comment would have been what?
at some point, people learn that they can't win with some people no matter what, so they don't bother listening any more. Dan is such a person. let's hope he is a minority within the community.
Dan Crowley is indeed an openly gay man. but it seems to me he is something else - qualified. i read the linked article and was pleased with what i read. he sounds like a great advocate. let's hope he will continue to succeed in this new position as he has in the past. HIV prevention is still important, even if some are tired of the issue.
Dan bitches about everything. Obama doesn't appoint any gays - Dan bitches. Obama appoints a gay male, Dan bitches. it seems like the insinuation is that this appointment was done to garner support from gays. i don't believe that is so. in fact, maybe Obama doesn't even count the number of gays employed by his administration. but Dan seems to.
the "people" i talk of who stop listening aren't idiots like you and me who read blogs, but politicians. it's fine for Dan to make a living bitching and moaning about everyone and everything. his snarky gay spokespersona certainly sells.
but i am hoping that as a community, we don't fall into the same trap. if a constituency is never satisfied, politicians will stop bothering even trying to satisfy them. answer the first question for me, "why." if Obama had chosen a straight man for the position, what would the response be? i suspect he'd scream bloody murder. how do you think Obama could have pleased Dan when filling this position? maybe a bisexual? a lesbian? a straight woman? what sexual preference would have met with Dan's approval?
my point about Crowley, is that he seems to be a dedicated person who has not only given time to the cause, but has been successful. his sexual orientation is not particularly important to me. i'm pleased at the appointment because i suspect he will be successful. the announcement is good news. that Dan found something negative to say is no surprise, but doesn't mean he can't be called out for it.
