Look who's talking, "Got milk?" My ex would eat that shit up. I'm just glad it's a picture and not the sound of some guy drooling and being a complete moron.

@14 Should slog posts pass your trite-filter? I just find it kinda odd that people with well-formed opinions on the topics Charles posts about would be upset by the fact that he puts this stuff up on slog. say you think it's trite, I'm not understanding what that matters.
The Stranger used to be more fun?! Keeping with the goal of diversity?!?!
I seem to remember a (The) Stranger even just 4 years ago that used to be respectful of ALL people, regardless of age, sex, race, orientation, politics.
Oh, okay? So we have to keep with the goal of diversity? How about a picture of an attractive male in a humiliating position--you know, for those of us who like men? Gay and straight men aren't the only ones with sex drives, you know.
Seriously, humiliation for all or humiliation for none, Stranger. You can't have it both ways.
Pick--*Now*. Enforce it--*Now*!

Say that you cumulatively countered my creativity/audacity claim, really then, what's the harm? it's the slog. take a peek at other blogs and there's no one else even trying to do what Charles is doing.
There's no nudity here. You see as much skin in sometimes more questionable configurations in any number of other posts by other bloggers on this site.
@6, 7, 9, 13, 23 - Did you freak out about the pictures Kelly O provided from the Erotic Ball? Is her misandry any less contemptable by your standards?
It's The Stranger, people. Take a deep breath and step down off the soapbox.
@33: Yes, for better or worse, Mudede's sophomoric attempts at profundity (and this is one of them, you realize) have been a part of the Stranger for a lot longer than Slog or most of its readers.
I will go on mocking him, but if this really upsets you, it's not the place for you.
seriously 34, who are you to claim that Charles post are sophomoric? I find it incredibly easy to make myself look smarter by sneering at things, but to make any point at all I try to provide contentful criticisms.
Jonathan @15... my thoughts exactly. Oh, and nice to see someone commenting on something relevant to the link. I sort of expected there to be a little discussion about genetically modified foods, but sadly, it's all "Charles sux" / "No he doesn't".

@36: It really doesn't matter who I am, but since you asked, I am someone who has been reading the Stranger for more than a decade and who was in grad school long enough to A) Meet a lot of poseurs who talk like Charles does; B) Read most of the stuff he's referencing.
But it's really not a pissing contest. I was actually just telling the whiners to stfu.
I am amazed, yet strangely aroused. I think about total recal and the woman with three breasts ... three breasts, disgusting. Four ... you know, not bad!

it is not just this one image - C. Muhdik Mudede constantly and consistently objectifies and debases women in his posts. it's disgusting and offensive.
NO OTHER person on The Stranger staff is this consistently offensive and completely sophomoric.
@41. I may not agree with Charle's taste. But SOMEONE has to objectify women a bit around here! It can't just be Dan Savage and co. posting morman boys while the oh so "don't objectify me women" just remain quiet and gawk to themselves.

@41: Oddly enough, the person in my grad program who had a similar style of puking up smoke clouds of deep thought was a gay white man who had a penchant for saying extremely racist things.
Racist things that were, of course, *actually* radical critiques of normal standards of intelligent discourse.
Basically, it's the priestly impulse. When you begin to believe things that your rational self finds revolting, you must reject conventional wisdom and all the logic that goes with it.
so one of my questions still stands. Say someone's read foucault or whatever, I agree it's no contest. What I am wondering is what drives one to post about the extent to which charles does this or that. say someone has read charles for years and knows the works he is refering to: why get into a huff about postings on slog?
@45: Again, I was telling people *not* to get into a huff about Charles' posting on Slog. My whole point is that whatever you think of him, he's grandfathered into this particular institution, and I think he's actually been here longer than Savage (could be wrong!).
If your real question is "will you take back the part about 'Charles' sophomoric attempts at profundity'?", the answer is no.
@33. Hey, yo. I just don't want it plastered on the front. Kelly O kept the naughty bits of her photo hidden from view on the front page. That's all I'm saying. And I'm expressing my opinion. Like you.
Cheers.

fair enough. Actually in full disclosure, I think it's just a deep-seeded perhaps weakness of mine to be wary of those who feel comfortable calling things sophomoric. nobody really knows what the fuck's going on, so I'm feel better about people throwing stuff out there than those of keep pulling back.
ok look i read charles's link and i went to MADGE http://www.madge.org.au and that one picture is all i found. seriously. what gives? how can there not be a website with hundreds of 4titted lactation pics for instant download? somebody get on this. the law of the internet is that if you can name a kink it exists and theres already a community but wtf? if there is no such thing as a 4titted + lactation web site then the interent is broken dude

OK, enough is enough. Can we please have a vote on Slog on whether or not to fire Charles? It seems most of the readers can't stand his juvenile/faux-profound Marxist analysis crap, and yet he remains employed. There are plenty of talented writers out there that are desperate for a job right now. Please, give them a chance, and let Mudede go. He's giving academics a bad name.

oooh skin, breasts, no big deal people, and guess what if you read slog at work you need to get the fuck back to work and stop wasting your time reading the stranger while you are supposed to be working

GE is like everything else created by humans. It will have it's good points and it's really, really bad points. What I'm wondering is what kind of planet this will be when it finally purifies itself of humans. Or when humans purge themselves from it.
@34 - I think my comments may have come across as harsher than intended. Of course there should be criticism; I probably shouldn't have unceremoniously lumped your comment in with others. I do think, however, that people calling for Mudede's head are going completely overboard. It's a silly post on a Thursday afternoon. It's not even supposed to be journalism.
@48 - Fair enough. I forget sometimes what it's like to work in a place where the term "NSFW" is a real cause for concern. I will say that the delineation between the two posts that makes only one of them appropriate seems dubious, but perhaps your workplace regulations are more specific.
Any other breastfeeders in the comments? Any? Hello? Or just breast fetishizers who never used them for what they were intended?
Been there, awesome for my baby (and YES my toddler) and for me, sucks how much dudes ("society," "The Man,," etc.) feel entitled to sexualize it—I didn't do it for your benefit, fuckwit—totally read this post as to do with The Man's Use of women and non-human animals—not as an attempt to be "hot." Though certainly, using a "hot" model is a sad attempt to mass market their ideas.
Can't speak to Charles's motivation for posting... though it must be said, I love Charles. Fire others first.

Reading Slog is one of my very few workday joys. It's a pity that I now have to give it up for fear of coming across NSFW posts such as this one. Thanks, Chuck.

Right on, @34. It's not the nudity. It's the immature leering presented as lofty insight. The French titles really don't uplift it at all, just make it still more pretentious. How tiresome.

@79: Yes, during a supply-side crisis, it's always a good idea to try to start selling something that had no monetary value even when the economy was healthy.
More importantly: thank vishnu you're using your free speech for something that will really alter the course of history.
I've been trying to figure out all day why people are mad, and I don't get it. I mean... it seems like some women feel this is somehow degrading, but I'm a woman and I don't feel degraded. And some people seem to think this is inappropriate. Could someone please clue me in on what I'm missing?
