Let's look on the bright side: the couple the registered sex offender—a female registered sex offender, which is a refreshing change of pace—gave those two small children to in exchange for a cockatoo was straight. That's some comfort.

What killed me was the part where it said "the children were placed in a temporary foster home". As in, they'll be returning them to their biological family when they find them. Nice going Louisiana!

@4: no the temp foster home is the step before permanent adoption. Foster homes are by definition temporary.

@ 6,

No, my mother worked with social workers in CPS (granted that was in Oregon during the late 90's). Their goal was not "the best interest of the children", it was "preserve the family at all costs". It didn't matter what the parents did to their kids, heck even up to killing one of them, they could always reunite with their kids after some counseling and some parenting classes. Heaven forfend if the parents divorced and the kids had to live in a broken home! That must be avoided at all costs. No matter how often Daddy beats Mommy, rapes his daughters and puts lit cigarettes out on Juniors neck. It's far better they stay together than divorce and the children be adopted.
