A Request from Ben at Bark Bus

Ben at Bark Bus writes, "can i be a friend or enemy of the slog?" Bark Bus appears to be a deluxe dog-walking service in which your dog is taken on hikes. The website has photos of dogs running all crazed through fields and woods and so forth, and also the photo shown here of a German shepherd reading a book entitled German Shepherd. Pricing for your dog in nature without you having to be there: "One day on the bark bus is $42 USD for full-day outings. Half-days (Tues and Thurs) are $25 USD."

No consensus has been reached around the office about Bark Bus and its relationship to Slog. (An obvious pro: photo of German shepherd reading book about German shepherds. A possible con: Perhaps people with more money than sense should be paying to, say, have underprivileged children taken on a bus to run free in nature instead of dogs?)

So! Let us LET SLOG DECIDE*!

Bark Bus should be:

*As always, Dan Savage retains veto power. Unfair? I KNOW!!!

Mudede is clicking "Enemy of Slog" so hard his finger is bleeding.

i've always wondered about the process by which someone is deemed a friend or enemy of the slog. i know that i have very friendly feelings toward the slog and a number of it's commenters, but i have no idea what the slog or it's commenters think of me.

aren't these folks just requesting free advertising on slog? in which case: mission accomplished!

I choose D) The Bark Bus must do something material for the Slog before the Slog gives the Bark Bus free advertising. I guess the closest available choice is C), but I don't want to hurt any cute doggies' feelings.

Are they pitbull friendly?

Dude, that dog can READ! You DEFINITELY want it on your side! No question.

Dan Savage has made this policy extremely clear: FRIENDS OF PIT BULLS ARE ENEMIES OF SLOG.

I voted for enemy since they don't contribute to my need for plastic bags.

I'm so indifferent to Bark Bus I can't even be bothered to comment on this thread.

@9 I agree. If Bark Bus is pit bull-friendly, I think that automatically makes them an enemy of Slog.

I am blessed to be a friend of Slog. Even if they didn't consider me such, I would still like them (and, by the way, my Blog is 100% commercial free).

What if the pit bulls use cloth diapers that are washed with grey water?

Maybe I should change that vote to Friend of SLOG ...

if I can't be a friend of slog, then no to this charming service, too.

@Valkyrie...That is the same name as one of my pups...but we call her Val for short.

To the author of this post...why can't one help underprivledged kids AND pamper their dogs?

Replace the nature hikes and cute books with dog-shaped metal cages and kibble-filled force feeding tubes -- then you're not only a friend of Slog but you'll get a glowing restaurant review from BJC!

i like that bark bus asked to be either a friend or an enemy, which means it recognizes that its product is sort of dumb/disquieting in that it's a morally questionable use of funds for overpaid/overworked "dog lovers," but bark bus doesn't rise to the level of importance to slog/public conversation as the discovery institute, tpm, or even fnarf.

Maybe if bark bus got one of its dogs of leisure to give us frequent comments on slog posts, it should it get a little love. What does a dog frolicking in the woods think about bacon? Or priests molesting kids? Or zoning and the war on drugs? Architecture, Dubai and hotties? Perhaps nothing. Woof.

wow thanks for all your comments!

hm, once again BJC is snarkily and snootily suggesting that other folks find something better do so with their resources, while she posts frivolous polls and occupies Slog space with meaningless, empty crap.

bark bus ben, a friend of dogs is a friend of mine and a gift to the world.

If it's pro-dog, slog will never suffer its friendship.

ouch, that stings, Eric!

i guess i will slink off now with no hope of ever being considered a friend of the slog ... with only my dogs to warm my broken heart ♥

***sniff, sniff***

i love dogs.

ill do an all pit bull day if dan doesn't veto!

Isn't this just a transparent attempt to boost BarkBus's Google rating by getting a linkback from a popular site like TheStranger? Granted, it's a bit less annoying than the spam-posts that sometimes occur, but isn't it essentially the same thing?
Posted by Dan on February 25, 2009 at 7:12 PM

i can't vote without knowing where ben stands on foie gras!

Dan @26: I believe it's so transparent that no one feels the need to comment on that aspect. Except you.

Win - win scenario.

Take dogs AND underprivileged kids out in the woods.

And then my rottweiler can chase the kids.

can you make foie gras with dog liver? because, i think i know what savage is getting for his birthday! pit bull foie gras!

Since they don't feed foie gras to the dogs, they must be friends of SLOG, right?

Mr Herriman, I love dogs. Most of my favorite people are dogs. But I have read enough of SLOG to know that it is not pro-dog (and that's being kind).
