The Journal Register company has, as you initially stated, declared bankruptcy. They haven't, as you finish your statement with, folded.

Nice grandstanding by Jindal, who refused, what, like 1% of his state's stimulus funds allocation? And will no doubt take credit for refusing all of it? All because he falsely claims he'd have to change state laws and raise taxes (he wouldn't, the feds will pay for it)? This is the future of the Republican party. What a bunch of clueless dipshits.

Nice attitude problem from an unpaid guy who's basically a gofer. But then, considering that he's facing a lifetime of unemployment in his chosen profession, maybe it's understandable.

Louisiana is in such a shithole, and Jindal refusing that money equals criminal neglect. I hope that the people of Louisiana hold him accountable. The same goes that figurative massa/plantation owner Haley Barbour in nextdoor Mississippi. How can a governor of one of the poorest (Or, the poorest?) states in the nation turn down crucial funding?!

Jindal is ACCEPTING most stim money -- only rejecting a $97M slice -- for grandstanding purposes. Getting in limelight for opposing big govt. while actually accepting most of the dough.
(So, so Lousianne.)
Add him to your watch list for 2012. Jindal also cleaned up ethics and a corrupt levee board and has the American dream story (immigrant makes good, etc.).
Is the national GOP too racist to choose him over Palin or the Huckster?

So of all the grandstanding Republican governors pretending to struggle with taking the stim money, Jindal wants the presidency most.

About West Point: hell of a place. You can die there just by drinking water instead of Gatorade during the summer jungle training. (No rest for the weary.) A friend attended. She called it "Castle Greyskull." Had to have counseling to get through it. Came out alive but with born again military friends and some very weird attitudes. "Want some ... ?" "No, you don't want me on drugs when I'm protecting you." "Dude, we're in Europe. It's all legal here. And I don't want you protecting me. Especially in Europe."

The funds Jindal is turning down are all unemployment funds. As Louisiana currently has an unemployment rate 2% lower than the national rate, and actually added jobs in December, it was a safe move on his part. He looks good to the people who would look favorably on turning down stimulus funds (which is a good percentage of Louisianians) without actually hurting things too badly.
Although Louisiana is facing a budget shortfall (primarily because of falling oil prices), this state is not in as bad a shape as many others financially speaking. Of course, when it comes to human services, education, environmental issues, infrastructure, etc...well, that's a different story. I think people will be ticked if Jindal turns down any funding for those areas.
