What is the Going Rate for Pastors of Technology These Days?

Posted by on Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 11:30 AM

According to BlockShopper.com, Zachary Hubert, a "pastor of technology" for Mars Hill Church, just bought a four-bedroom, 4,350-square-foot house in Green Lake for $1,234,375. That's more than three times the 2008 median sales price for houses in Seattle. Hubert's wife, Julie, is an executive assistant at the church.

Guess Mars Hill is paying pastors pretty well these days.

(More about Blockshopper here; thanks to SlogTipper Steve G.)

I have never met someone named Zachary who was not a tool. It must come from being picked last at everything.

Zachary Hubert had gay sex with me at Steamworks last night: I have pictures and he is not well endowed.

I think he made a fair amount of money back in the day at Amazon, but he did recently, along with the church, sell a Facebook-like program he built for them. It was purchased for a few million dollars, so I'm sure he got a (well-deserved) chunk of that.

Ever heard of supplemental income?

yes, this zachary made a few programs for mars hill, one of them "the city" was sold for something like 4 million to zondervan, and some of the mars hill staff was transferred to work on it. zondervan is setting up an office in this area to accommodate the project. i think this is an example of a employee working hard at something, and being rewarded when the project turned out to be a great success.

Good to see so many folks defending multi-millionaire "pastors" here. God bless 'em, each and every one.

@6 and what -- he shouldn't get any money from the sale of his program to zondervan? i think more employees should be rewarded as such if they go that far above and beyond in their contributions.

as a side note, i don't think i like this blockshopper site. kind of annoying.

Holy Sheiss!

Man they sure are shearing those sheep close!

Why don't they follow Jesus' example and turn away from Mammon?

ECB -- you should look into parsonage allowances with the IRS. Many ministers don't pay taxes on housing. I'd be curious to know whether he gets the break, no matter if the money is coming from private enterprise or high pastoral salaries.

i don't get it... why is it that people in seattle think a tech worker shouldn't be paid for the utility he developed... am i missing something? seriously....

i know everyone likes to hate on the christians.... and i know it's kind of funny because mars hill calls him a "pastor"... but what should the head of IT get paid at a company the size of mars hill? what sort of bonus should he get paid when he makes his company an extra 4 mill? and what sort of house is the largest he should be able to buy when he takes on a new position with a publishing company?

evertime an uber-rich 'pastor' buys a huge home an angel gets their wings

Mr. Lennon said it best ... Imagine all the people ...

@7: Sure, if he can get someone to pay him money for a Facebook ripoff, I don't see why he shouldn't take it. Spending that money on a million-dollar carbon-eating house while an increasing number of his parishoners are in need... well, there's an obvious disconnect there.

But then, maybe he's only ministering to newly-converted Linux netbooks. I dunno.

A "pastor of technology"?

Uh, has anyone else ever read Foundation?

The Foundation is spreading it's religion of science to Earth! By Seldon, I knew this day would come!!!

ECB, you're not going to blog about the fact that your BFF Joel Connelly gave you a shout-out in his column today?

Nanny statists have railed against opponents of the bill. They've been described as "the pitchfork brigade" by Erica Barnett in The Stranger, who suggested that critic John Fox of the Seattle Displacement Coalition is "delusional." Name calling by a transplanted Texan won't silence critics.

Just remember, if the house is "owned" by the "ministry", they're not paying property taxes on it, or fire taxes, or any other taxes.

BUT WE GET TO SUBSIDIZE IT!

@15: Yeah, but the Second Foundation is headquartered in Seattle, so no worries.

Oops, I shouldn't have said that.

If you're that close, you really should round your offer up to $1,234,567.89

The church is very technologically advanced. They may be conservative and mysogonistic but they ain't stupid.
Mars Hill and "Pastor Dude" were a featured news item on ABC's Nightline a couple of weeks ago. They have established several "virtual" churches in various neighborhoods where people watch the sermon and show via live-cast from Ballard. This allows them to open new churches at extremely low cost to the organization. Each virtual church is equipped with a coffee bar, daycare, and etc. Members can walk locally instead of having to drive.

If the simple minded followers of this dipshit want to support him living in splendor, great. They should remember that when their house is foreclosed. It's about the money. It's always about the money. Jesus my ass.

That's a lot of goddamn money for Green Lake, right in the middle of Tangletown there. Not even close to the water. I guess I'll never be able to afford to live there. Bummer; it's a cool neighborhood, though I wouldn't want a pastor living next door or anything.

Actually, if it's the location next to Greenlake I'm thinking of, that's not very expensive, Fnarf. There are certain spots where that's pretty typical.

You're a shithead, Will. You're not "thinking of" anything, because you're incapable of it. Look at the fucking link and see where it is. Or just read the word "Tangletown" in my comment and find a clue. Oh, that's right: you could find a clue if it was stuck to your dick and you could use both hands.

You habitually pretend to know things you patently do not know. It's stupid and should be embarrassing. You should stop. You should slam your fingers in your car door if necessary.

That's by far a record for that block of Kirkwood, BTW.

It's nice to see that blockshopper is protecting my privacy by misspelling my name!

You were talking about Greenlake. Do you even read your posts? Try taking a walk around it someday ...
Posted by Will in Seattle on February 20, 2009 at 3:58 PM

I walk around it once a week if not more, dickhead.

LOOK AT THE FUCKING POST. It has the precise address right on it. You talk about "the location next to Greenlake I'm thinking of" but you DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE FUCKING TALKING ABOUT. Literally. You're imagining some other nonexistent house in some other nonexistent neighborhood. You don't even know what "the" means.

Seriously, does it seem unnaturally dark where you are? All the time? Is it possible for a person to have a stroke that lasts for years at a time and not know it? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, MENTALLY?

Since Mars Hill is a church the salary earned by this guy is a secret. If he earned his money from a secular non profit you could look up the salaries of the directors and the top 5 most highly paid employees. The salaries of everybody who works for a for a union is public information, why should churches be different?
