You Down With G.O.P. ? (Yeah, You Know Me)

Posted by on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 5:18 PM

Ain't no party like a Republican Party cuz a Republican Party don't stop:

Soon after his election as chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele pledged to “bring this party to every corner, to every boardroom, to every neighborhood, to every community.”

Apparently, he wasn’t kidding.

The public relations campaign Mr. Steele has planned is going to be “off the hook,” he told the Washington Times in an interview published on Thursday.

“We want to convey that the modern-day G.O.P. looks like the conservative party that stands on principles,” Mr. Steele said. “But we want to apply them to urban-suburban hip-hop settings.”

And Mr. Steele, isn’t leaving anyone out, including, he joked, “one-armed midgets.”

Remember when Karl Rove discovered rap music? It's only a matter of time until we see Alan Keyes krumping for votes.

what are these "republican principles"?

reckless warmongering?
intolerance of gays and minorities?
keeping poor people and uppity women "in their place?"

bring it.

Timbuk3's "It Was a Grand Old Party" comes to mind here.

I don't think what made Barack Obama attractive to black youth was phrases like "off the hook," or speaking 'wherever the minorities are,' as Steele seems to imply.

With Steele's new position we're going to see how two educated black men, leaning on opposite sides of the political fence, find success.

Unfortunately for Steele -- and fortunately for America -- no one's going to buy that Republicans and conservatives have the solutions to our problems JUST because the party's speaker is black and high up in politics.

Once the G.O.P. stops trying to market itself, rather than sync American's ideals with their own, they might have a chance. But Steele's public proclamation to hassle even the "one-armed midget" crowd shows that's not likely to happen.

Obama was elected through his message, not a platform disguised by a thin veil of brown.

I think Keyes already hits the Robitussin pretty hard. This is going to be fun to watch. Especially when they say things like "one-armed midgets" in an attempt to be funny, and to deflect attention from the fact that even the black Republicans are whiter than Edgar Winter. They used to make jokes about "crippled black lesbian veterans" too -- what real diversity looks like to a person who's never actually encountered diversity in real life.

Ah - just like the Republicans to embrace a style that's already over 30 years old (and about as interesting as a stillborn baby) - it's the Notorious GOP!

"Urban-suburban hip-hop settings"? Seriously? Are we on SNL? What's happening?

"One-armed midgets" brings to mind James Watt:

"We have every kind of mix you can have. We have a black, a woman, two Jews, and a cripple."

For the Daily Show's take on all this, which captures the essence of the matter perfectly, Google "Reagraham Lincool".

Let me see if I have this right. Steele's closest opponent openly joked about "Barack the magic negro" while claiming it wasn't racist. Now Steele thinks a little "off the hook" patter is going to sway minorities to the G.O.P.

Good luck with that.

Man, guys, if we speak to the poor in their own "hipping hopping" language, maybe they won't notice that we're anally raping them with every legislative action we take!

> Ain't no party like a Republican Party cuz a Republican Party don't stop:

man, i've been in anti-war marches, etc., felt very good about being there.. and then someone has to start that fucking ain't no power like the power o'the people, 'cause the power of the people don't stop singalong and suddenly i just feel mortified, like i'm in with the wrong crowd, even if the original reason for the march seems like a great idea.

am i the only one who feels that way??
if not, is there some way we can stop that embarrassing crap from driving intelligent and/or tasteful people away from the events?

please, don't make me start hanging out with fucking Republican hip-hop crews...

Unless Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are willing to issue a split single with covers of "Fuck tha Police" and "Cop Killer," I think it's safe to say this is going nowhere fast.

So long as the bangers bring the Uzis and there's lots of bloodshed, I see nothing wrong with this plan to pre-decease the GOP.

(I should note I said Uzis cause neocons are retro like that, I know modern bangers don't use such lame 9mm ammo ... or even the standby MAC-10s.)
