Reading Tonight

Posted by on Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 10:08 AM

1bf6/1235066872-eugenemirman.jpgThere's a very wide range of stuff happening tonight.

First, at the Beacon Hill branch of the library, Mary Woodward discusses the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. At the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, there is a discussion about race and hip-hop.

At Third Place Books, Jacqueline Winspear reads from Among the Mad, which is about a mystery-solving woman named Maisie Dobbs, who I'm fairly certain is no relation to J.R. "Bob" Dobbs.

At Town Hall, Pratap Chatterjee reads from Halliburton's Army: The Long, Strange Tale of a Private, Profitable, and Out-of-Control Texas Oil Company. I'd be very curious to see the difference between the size of audience for this kind of book during the Bush Presidency and now. Is anyone in Seattle going to pay attention to Halliburton anymore?

Finally, at University Book Store, Eugene Mirman reads from his book The Will to Whatevs. Megan Seling interviews Mirman in this week's book section. It starts like this:

I read your book The Will to Whatevs, and, unlike what you promise in the beginning, I'm not smarter, funnier, or more attractive than I was when I started reading it. So I guess my first question is: What the fuck?

Umm... first of all, I'd like to apologize for tricking you. The actual question is "What the fuck?"

Yes.

I'm gonna say it's your fault.

It's a great, funny, interview, and you should read it all.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.
