That Painting You Just Saw on Lost?

Posted by on Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 9:45 PM

It's Caravaggio.

caravaggio34.JPG

Ben uses it as a device to convince Jack that he should drop the skeptic act and doubt no more; to me, Thomas has always looked dignified in his skepticism. He's looking past the body of Christ, trying to pit his brain against his finger to see what he can come up with himself. Anyway...

@3 too bad you lost the faith. Some of the episodes this season have been amazing. Although tonight's was pretty disappointing.

Wait - you see skepticism? Weren't Caravaggio's models mostly whores and drunks? I don't think it's because Thomas is looking through the body of Christ, but is actually holding onto to the fleshwound to maintain his balance (hiccup!)...

Well, the first thing I thought of when I saw the painting was "Losing My Religion, trying to keep up with you and I don't know if I can do it..."
Locke's letter had the same feeling to it.

"He points out that while Thomas is most famous for doubting Jesus' resurrection, he also bravely suggested all the apostles return to Judea where death awaited them all."

I love hearing The Whole Story whenever possible. Once this Lost TV series is over, I will be SO relieved.

That can't be Jesus. Jesus was RIPPED.

I love this painting. Thomas is all "Bullshit you came back from the dead..." Jesus replies "Look at where that fucking Roman stuck me with his spear..." Thomas pokes his finger saying "Duuuuuude... Jesus that is fucked up!"

I don't watch Lost, but this is the best piece of art Jen has posted in weeks (in my humble opinion of course). I love Caravaggio's style. He blows his contemporaries out of the water. Titian can suck it.

Titian rocked balls at 90, you dick.
Caravaggio was a party boy rock star- great but he had no fucking staying power.

@15: Titian died at 86! The Tories made it so on Wikipedia, so it must be true!

I wonder who would win in a fight between Jesus and Superman?
Posted by Urgutha Forka on February 19, 2009 at 9:00 AM

Superman would pummel the shit out of Jesus, who would then forgive him and win on a moral technicality.

Last night's episode was NOT very good...very clunkily written and directed.

For 5 years on Lost, no one ever asks any question or gets any answers or questions why they don't get any answers, then all of a sudden we get a boring 5 minute exposition scene of Ms Hawking lecturing us on shit that we've already guessed the answers to...

and that pendulum was getting on my nerves and why didn't it knock someone over?

@21 Because Desmond is deft, and he was a master of double dutch in another life, brotha.

I'm waiting for the pop-up vid version of last night's episode, when they tell us how many of the actors got whopped by the pendulum while they continually reshot the scene.

@13, love your work.

I love this bit of scripture, which is the best ammunition I've found yet to argue with Fundies about embracing science. It goes along these lines: "remember that Jesus invited Thomas to inspect the scientific evidence. The evidence didn't disprove his divinity, it proved it", etc.

We just saw the episode and it really sucked.
That woman playing Faraday (sp?) mom was an abomination.

Fionulla Flanagan? I thought she was kind of hot shit amongst fans of older foreign actresses.
