Hey There Theater-Critic Haters...

Posted by on Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 3:40 PM

... a whole new batch of reviews awaits your gentle, loving attention.

Along with the best theater press photo The Stranger has received in years. It came from The Mistakes Madeline Made, which David Schmader loves: "The Mistakes Madeline Made is the kind of play that makes you glad there are plays. Go see it."

It's about a promiscuous woman who stops bathing because her traumatized Iraq-war-correspondent brother has taken up residence in her bathtub (among many, many other things):

See the rest (Frizzelle on Moby-Dick, Paul Constant on a two-woman, Patsy Cline jukebox musical, and me on a bunch of short plays including Shel Silverstein writing about a dead pony) here.

Photo looks pretty meh. Sure you didn't pull this off the Flickr pool by mistake?

I am filled with self-loathing that the biggest thing that I get out of this post is how cute the blonde is in the picture.

what is it about people sitting fully-clothed in dry bathtubs? a new "edgy movie" cliche?

Go see the show, Ellarosa... then you'll get it.

I promise you @1, this photo is not from the Flickr pool. If you see the play, and then see the photo again, it will make even more sense. The tone, and contrast, croppable composition and simplicity make this an effective press photo. It takes a lot of effort to look so "meh".
