The Future of Journalism?

Posted by on Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 12:12 PM

This guy, who has been posting a lot of interesting stuff about CityPages and Village Voice Media, has decided that you shouldn't be able to drink the milk for free. (Um, the "milk" of his journalism.)

If you’d like to read yet another post about something I’ve uncovered at CityPages and Village Voice Media, cough up some coin. A net positive $50 in payments guarantees the post goes live on Thursday as planned.

Here’s the caveat: People can also pay to keep the post from going live. I call this the dueling pianos concept. The post has been proofread and described as, “Wow, that’s good stuff.”

Pick your side. Payments can be made in increments of $1 up to and beyond $50 (change the quantity to whatever you’d like after clicking the Add to Cart button).

Um, wow.

So the author is essentially saying "I know something you don't know!" and holding out a change cup?

Hunh.

Someone should tell him that for the price of a cup of coffee a day, I can have a cup of coffee instead of funding his ego.

@retard -- actually, dueling pianos is valid. They used to have a great dueling piano bar over on Shilshole -- was it at Anthony's? Anyone remember? This would've been in the very early '90s?

I believe Chopstix in lower Queen Anne still has dueling pianos.

Who among us wouldn't shell out a little dough to prevent Joel Connelly from posting something?

Slog or Stranger lecturing anyone else on journalism or standards is pure comedy.

Sure, as soon as I get done reading the free portions of the internets.

Yeah, because paying for content has been *such* a success story.

A little shameless self-promotion never hurt anyone.
