@4 - You honestly don't believe that the Chinese government didn't plaster that story everywhere? It's a negative story about the most famous American athlete ever. They're our biggest Olympic rival. OF COURSE they broadcast it.

Chinese-made food is generally just as safe to eat, and in many cases far safer, than American food. No food plant anywhere in China has been allowed to sink to the condition of the peanut butter processor in Georgia who is STILL KILLING PEOPLE TODAY. Shitheads like you get all excited about melamine, but the American food system is far more dangerous. Seriously, have you SEEN the FDA list of affected products? Or rather, the database of them -- it's too long for just a list. Trader Joes is on there, too, you know. Half the supermarket products in America are affected, everything except, ironically, jars of peanut butter. And they KNEW it was tainted. And the FDA KNEW it was tainted, but continues to insist they don't have any power to recall obviously poisoned food.

i was thinking, as i was smoking a joint, that maybe this was the first time Phelps smoked. maybe that accounts for his comments about not knowing what he'll do in the future and being fine with the penalty of having three months off. maybe that one bong hit was all he needed to demotivate and the next three months will see him slip even farther into a cannabis coma. no doubt in 4 years he'll be holding up drugstores to score some oxycontin.

@35: I have met both Fnarf and WiS at SLOG night and can attest to the fact that, while they are both white men of a certain age that would not look out of place at an Eagles concert, they are diametrically opposed in outlook and affect. Fnarf, I saw Black Flag in concert in Atlanta in, oh, 1984. Somebody threw a bottle on stage. Rollins stopped the show, and said that if anyone else threw anything he was going to go out into the audience and beat the living shit out of whoever threw the bottle.
