When Will Change Come To Our Nation's Airports?

Posted by on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 8:41 AM

The security threat level—"as determined by the Department of Homeland Security"—has been at ORANGE for how long? Does it ever change?

Well, you see, if it were to have some actual correlation to reality, that would require them to be, uh, competent.

I rest my case.

Sigh! No idea. I'm impressed that you pay attention, I kind of tune those things out. My bad.

after something catastrophic happens, it'll jump back up to ZOMG RED ALERT! then it'll settle down and go back to mauve or whatever and we'll all stop caring, and then something catastrophic will happen and ZOMG RED ALERT!

@3 - I thought they changed the alert to "Rainbow" when Dan flies. Tony Perkins has been on Rainbow Alert for decades.

And when will TSA publish a list of all the rules and regulations that they will subject someone to if that person wishes to cross a U.S. Government checkpoint at an airport en route to the gate from which his domestic flight will depart, not including laws that the person is required to abide by outside of the airport checkpoint (i.e., just those rules and regulations that apply only at the checkpoint)?

Presently, they refuse to do so. We can't be expected to follow rules that we are not allowed to read.

(This has been discussed at length on TSA's "Evolution of Security" blog.)

We throw lots of snark at the warning system, but the reason for it is something that both intelligent people like us AND the federal government have recognized: most people is dumb, dumb, DUMB! Don't give 'em words, that'll just confuse 'em, give 'em colors instead.

@ 12 - You might even say that Tony is a "Rainbow Warrior"!

The people don't pay attention to it anymore, why should the government? After all it was only a big joke in the first place.

This should be Obama's next order of business. Also, the signs at all of the ferries that warn us that we're at MARSEC 1 need to go.
