Diluting the Brand

Posted by on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 1:45 PM

Starbucks is about to launch an instant coffee.

e37b/1234474356-instant-coffee-008.jpgAlthough the new product seems well-positioned for the current economy in which premium-priced coffee can be a tough sell, Via is not just a sign of the times. The instant product has been many years in the making and is designed to mimic the taste of store-bought Starbucks — the point the company is expected to make in its marketing for the brand.

"It's a breakthrough in soluble coffee," said a person close to the project.

Sanka you very much, Starbucks.

Well now I'll have another choice whenever I need instant coffee granules for a recipe. Yay?

Not that I'd drink it, but I hope it doesn't taste like their regular bean coffee because that shit sucks.
I'd say this means starbucks jumped the shark, but I never liked them in the first place.

Oh, and: Really gay sexual fucking

If I ever found that in a prospective boyfriends kitchen, I'd walk out without saying goodbye. I would make an exception though if it were summer and it was used exclusively for greek style frappes.

Some dark corner of my soul is hoping that it will somehow be delicious, in defiance of the realities of organic chemistry.

For a year I was a barista in Olympia. One day as a joke I changed the "coffee of the day" to say "Foldgers Crystals". We all thought it was very funny. The owner did not. She fired me on the spot. The end.
