Yes, obviously.

But you know how a pine nut also looks like a tick?

Yes, obviously!!! This fact sometimes interferes with my ability to eat and enjoy pine nuts.

Seriously.

yes, lindy, but pine nuts are much bigger and tastier than ticks, so you needn't worry about confusing them. eat away!

I have the same problem with flaxseeds and poppyseeds, because I once lived in an apartment with a cockroach infestation... cockroach egg sacs look like flaxseeds and their poop looks like poppyseeds.

I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.

Whenever I eat a pine nut cookies I can't help but think of those Animal Cops episodes where they rescue dogs infested with hundreds of ticks.

Actually, that type of tick enlarges as it fills up on blood. So, it could be the same size as a pine nut (or even larger than a pine nut). But don't worry, the coloration is completely different from a pine nut. So, you'd either have to be drunk or stupid to confuse the two. But if you did, just think of the gooey blood filled center!

I didn't realize the resemble because I've never seen a large image of tick. I could have done without that, thanks very much.

We all eat something like 2.2 pounds of insects a year that are part of the flour, rice, vegetables, fruits, etc. that we consume. I'm searching Epicurious for a tick and pine nut recipe just so it's all out in the open.

@10 You're right; the tick in the pic (hey, that rhymes!) is a blood tick and when it's full of blood it's WAY bigger than any pine nut I've ever seen. Also - @17 You might eat 2.2 lbs. of insects every year - it's a free country - but I really don't think I do.

@6, that scene always makes me laugh hysterically anytime I see it, but reading it written out somehow made it EVEN FUNNIER. Seeing in writing that "rawrr rawr" sounds like "macadamia nut" part is particularly brilliant.

Actually, a really blood engorged tick could also look like a corn nut. Fortunately, I hate corn nuts.

mostly ticks look flat & slow. you have to be an idiot to let one get that big on you. even my dog can get them off before that size.

they deserve to die.

Just make pesto out of your pine nuts.

I've never seen a tick that looked like that.

On a related note, I found a tick on my nuts last spring. I couldn't find any tweezers, so I pulled it (the tick) off with needle-nose pliers.

The bitch of it is I was outside for less than 5 minutes that day.

Ticks aren't that slow. They can move pretty fast if they are warm enough. As for ticks on balls, that happens a lot more than you'd think. Ticks head up and if you get one on your leg you might not feel it crawling up. They look for thick hair and warmth, balls are a perfect place to hide.
On ladies, they often go up to the head and settle behind the ears. We have ticks in our area and NEVER walk in the woods with out long pants, socks, full boots, and insect repellent sprayed on our clothes. They dogs get a pill and topical treatment to prevent ticks from attaching. They get on, but they fall off and are ground up in the garbage disposal. Never pick them up or off with your hands. The diseases they can infect you with are transferable through your skin. Only the females of the species suck blood, the males suck plant juice much like skeeters.

Yeah, but Lindy, really, if the pine nut WERE a tick, it would eat YOU, so really shouldn't you just bite down first?

I was just about to sit down and watch a movie (intending to enjoy a bag of nuts at the same time). My cat just came in with something I didn't recognise (but thought might be a tick). Hence I went on google to look it up and stumbled across this site.

Think I have confirmed that he does have a tick..............but also that I won't be eating nuts during the movie.
