Top Chef Auditions at Canlis

Open auditions for the show Top Chef are reportedly into their fifth hour over at Canlis. Local notable chefs who showed up hoping to be chosen include Josh Henderson of Skillet, Chester Gerl of Matt's in the Market, Shannon Galusha of Veil (now defunct), and Charles Walpole of Anchovies and Olives (Ethan Stowell's new place on Capitol Hill, not yet open). A Canlis sous chef, Na Kenge, would've had the home-kitchen advantage except that no cooking was required: The auditions involve filling out an application, a group interview, then waiting for call-backs.

The application apparently has lots of purposefully nutty questions such as "What’s your culinary interpretation of the Pied Piper?" This is how television is made.

God damn it, but I love Top Chef. I'm hoping for a Top Chef Seattle in an upcoming season.

reality tv...

everybody loses.

i still would love to see JOSH from skillet on there. a non-traditional joint chef makes it all the more cool. and i am sure more alluring for those decision makers at top chef.

yar!

On Top Chef this season there was a challenge where they had to cook for a bridal shower with one rule: no veal or foie gras. Sorry Na Kenge and Chester Gerl, the food you cook is too immoral for reality TV. Maybe you should apply for Tool Academy?

@1 and 2: me too - The Seattle food scene deserves it. But it looks like Vegas might be it for next season: http://la.eater.com/archives/2009/02/05/…

good god, its nice being on top of the food chain!! Don't like veal or foie gras, go eat at cheesecake factory! Leave the good food for the rest of us! Go Chester Gerl, Matt's in the Market is the best!
