Today in Depressing News

Posted by on Thu, Feb 5, 2009 at 3:43 PM

An Iraqi woman had 80 other women raped and then recruited them as suicide bombers by claiming that "martyrdom was the only way to escape the shame" of rape.

Who wants a drink?

I don't judge other's cultural nuances.

Supposedly the same tactic is used against young male recruits as well. Terrible.

For people that are 100% evil, is it OK to say that they are stunningly ugly, and look exactly how you would imagine that they would look?

Between this and the article I read today stating that the number of vets who killed themselves last month was higher than the number of soldiers killed in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan last month....yes, I need a drink or seven.

Samira Jassam is one serious bad-ass motherfucker. I'm equally impressed by her utter ruthlessness and disgusted by her cruelty. It's a damn shame that the hell she no doubt believes in doesn't exist, since she's the poster child for going there.

I can sure judge the Iraqi police, though. They're always in trouble with Human Rights Watch for failing to swear off torturing and raping people in custody. Makes me wonder how accurate the details of this woman's confession may be.

Ugh. And I just ran out of my antidepressants, too.

I'm going back to bed.

Well, she's creative. You've got to give her that. Evil as all hell, but creative.

nytimes ran the story. the, they were raped version, was not confirmed. the times also mentioned other stories put forth by us military that turned out to be flat out lies. chances are this one is a lie as well, but i agree, if true is beyond depressing.

HeidiFleissIsMyMom you are an idiot. You SHOULD judge other people's cultural nuances if they are plain disgraceful to civilisation, as most of islam's "nuances" are. Not judging them and being politically correct is how the world got into this mess in the first place.

@18 - there is this thing called "sarcasm" you ought to learn about.... sheesh!

Wow - within one 24 hour news cycle I stumble upon a post about women being raped into a life of terror at SLOG and a post about men being raped into a life of terror at Bilerico:…

What should scare me more - rape being used to create terrorists or manipulative news stories being used to create fear of non-Christian darkies?

I think the latter has more potential for terror....

This is as heinous a war-crime as any I have heard of. The power of self-justification and rationalization never ceases to amaze.
