The Bat'leth Economy

Posted by Jonathan Golob on Wed, Feb 4, 2009 at 1:06 PM

Colorado Springs police are looking for a man who hit two 7-Eleven convenience stores early Wednesday, armed with a Klingon sword.

The first robbery was reported at 1:50 a.m., at 145 N Spruce St. The clerk told police a white man in his 20s, wearing a black mask, black jacket, and blue jeans, entered the store with a weapon the clerk recognized from the Star Trek TV series.

When Bat'leths are outlawed, only outlaws will have Bat'leths.

Just now before his nap I was reading my friend's four-year-old an old German book about a "rabbit school" (Die Hässchenschule). I was translating their little rabbit schoolbook about foxes, in which it said "Der Rotfuchs ist ein Räuber," the red fox is a thief. And he said, what's a thief. Well... So I found myself explaining what a bank was, then going to the 911 blog to find photos of thieves. Can of worms! Among other things, none of the bank robbers is waving guns--it's all klingon swords or some shit. A backpack and a nasty note.

Colorado Springs is also the home of a lot of things very nerdy including star trek obsessed sci fi people. I can totally see it.

Seriously, @9. A true Klingon would never reduce themselves to mere thievery; this was probably a Ferengi in disguise.

We need to shut down Star Trek nights; clearly they promote this kind of thuggery among Trekkies.
