SPD Rescues Goat

Posted by Jonah Spangenthal-Lee on Wed, Feb 4, 2009 at 12:16 PM

Hours after police chased down a loose puppy in Capitol Hill yesterday, another officer on patrol in Southwest Seattle came across a goat wandering the streets near 32nd Ave Sw and SW Elmgrove Street.

Officers transported the goat, named Buddy, to the precinct and tracked down the owner about an hour later.

Here is a wonderful picture of Buddy in a holding cell.

Is this not a picture of contentment? In a cell, behind bars, with nothing but concrete, stainless steel and a bit of paper, this goat is at ease. If only we could do as much with so little---life would be a dream.

@2 I was the one who sent in that link which I found on the SPDBlotter page. I check it everyday and noticed that post this morning. I never read the West Seattle Blog because I don't live in West Seattle and I never go over there. So no, Jonah doesn't have to give credit to a blog he didn't get the link from. Did WSB get the info from the SPDBlotter like I did?

It speaks to the relative quaintness of our town that the police are busy rounding up lost animals.

This is why we need more cops.

Did Seattle cut its Animal Control budget or something? This should be their job.

I'd rather the cops chase goats and dogs than shoot first ask questions later.

No, we didn't get the information from SPD Blotter. Last night we were about to head out to cover a public meeting as is usual about that time of night when we were hit by a blitz of text messages and e-mails from the local precinct asking us to post about the goat one of the officers had just found. Which we did - although we "only" put it on our Pets page, our Forum page, and our Twitter/Facebook accounts - and in less than an hour, the owner heard about it from someone who read one of those posts and went to reclaim her goat. The SPD Blotter story gives us proper credit for that. But the police took the photos so the only thing really missing in the account above is that police tracked down the owner by asking us to post about it. If the account above included a link to SPD Blotter, that would be clear, as SPDB thanks us in the copy. Here's our report from last night, including the photo above:

I love goats. I want herds of them at my imaginary retirement ranch.

Okay, if this story was a prime-time TV show, I would watch Every Week.

If it were a movie, in the vein of "Earnest Goes to Jail," I would take some kids to a matinee.

I actually feel bad that it is in a concrete cell. It should be on a grassy field, munching, skipping, pooping, bleating to his heart's content. And I hope it will be soon. Or at least that he's reunited with his owner soon.

What a cute goat though, really ^--^
