The American Insect Woman

Posted by Charles Mudede on Sun, Feb 1, 2009 at 3:10 PM

Sarah Palin is all about Sarah Palin, a fact that her party is slowly learning.

sarah_palin_cycle_twn.jpg
ABC News: When House Republicans planned their annual winter retreat, they extended an invitation to Alaska Gov. Sara Palin, hoping the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee would give a morale-building speech to the more than 130 Republican members of Congress gathered this weekend in Hot Springs, Va.

Retreat organizers tell ABC News that Palin politely declined, giving a perfectly understandable reason. According to the Congressional Institute, which hosted the conference, Palin said she simply could not make it to the retreat because pressing state business made it impossible for her to leave Alaska this weekend.

So where is Palin this weekend? She's in Washington, D.C., attending the super-elite Alfalfa Dinner.

"She lied to us," said a Republican at the retreat

.

The star of the Alfalfa Dinner?

President Barack Obama shared Washington’s high-society spotlight on Saturday night with an unlikely co-star — Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Wearing a black satin evening gown, Palin was spotted by journalists making her way into the ballroom at the Capitol Hilton for the Alfalfa Dinner, an annual closed-door roast of the city’s political and business elite.
Pretty Palin wants to be where that lights are bright and the champagne is flowing, not where the lights are out and a bunch of sore losers are licking their wounds in the dark.

It would only be really funny if the GOP bought her dress.

The most brilliant self promoter in an era of endless self promotion - she has the skill.

Her politics are horrid, but, rest assured she is on the stage for the long haul and will be a political celeb. for decades.

Plus the $$$$ she will rake in.

Maybe she will become a Dem.?

The things she does are loathsome, but they are what make her a Success Machine. She knows all the secret tricks to getting what she wants -- attention -- and because she's so good at it, she will never go away.

It doesn't matter that other successful people -- people who become successful not through tricks but through hard work -- are learning to hate her. Her methods are invulnerable to disdain. At worst, her fame will become notoriety, which will only make her even more successful.

Why does Sarah Palin nearly always wear black? Is this couture choice leaning towards the Puritan or the Satanic? Is she mourning her vice presidency?
'Insect woman' - well I guess she bugs almost everybody.

Well, there probably was pressing State business she had to attend to, which she completed and then went to the dinner. Duh!

She's such an idiot. If she'd just told them the truth I'm sure they would have understood. But she just threw away a whole bunch of brownie points for no good reason by lying. I think she's just a pathological liar who feels the need to conceal everything that's even slightly socially awkward or embarrassing- and maybe it worked for her in high school, but when you're a national public figure all your lies will be exposed sooner or later.

I think east coaster is right. The shit that worked in Wasillia and even Juneau will crash and burn on the national stage, where they, you know, check facts and stuff.

Hello everybody! I am down in LA for a most unlikely mini-vacation (It's horrid, but the weather is wonderful)

So this morning I found myself in the most dreadful of Sheratons: A place where the bartender had never even heard of a Belinni, with a bunch of MEN who were fixated on THE GAME (mind you, this was hours before it even started, so they weren't even drunk yet) when the NBC switched to la Palin.

She was broadcasting live from a room full of pre-schoolers (or something - whatever they were, they were small and proved to be her intellectual equal)

Anyway, as she prattled on, this MILF was presumably playing to her audience (my fellow middle-aged pasty white men in the Sheraton bar) but they were having none of it: it was a collective groan. They had more a response when they cut to Matt Lauer at the White House!

So, hopefully, when you've lost the downtown LA Sheraton Bar Crowd, you've lost America.

@5 "Duh!"

really? 1) are you 12? and 2) did you read the article? "Palin said...pressing state business made it impossible for her to leave Alaska this weekend."

she's both a terrible liar and a bountiful font of endless gifts. thanks once again, sarah!

Does her bastard grandchild have a married mother and father yet to uphold the sanctity of that GOP family value?

You all are fixated by her - think of the attraction to those on the right ... Sarah has a big career ahead.

And, the next round or two or three will be on her terms.

Barbs about her kids make me wonder if your mom EVER married your dad?? Dreary old stuff, need to move on. Half of American kids are born out of wedlock, so who is the Puritan?

Best idea I've heard lately: Mt. Redoubt volcano in Alaska is rumbling and smoking and ready to erupt, clearly demanding a significant sacrifice to appease the volcano god. Who could be better than Sarah?

and there the references to animals are, once again. seems that when Mudede really needs to insult someone, he reaches for the animal metaphor. weak.

Palin is an "insect" woman (btw, wtf does that mean?)
and
the GOP are "licking their wounds" (something that only non-human animals do)

You know, some insects are really freaking cool, and fascinating, and beautiful.

insect woman is a famous Imamura film centered on an amoral woman who scratches and crawls though the metaphoric shitpile of human associations in order to survive as a sub-human thing in the hideousness of life in fucked-up poverty-stricken sexist mid-century japan. Insect woman is a metaphor for the overall harshness of those times; Palin is an all too flesh and blood metaphor for the ignorance, narcissism, self-serving and absurdly hypocritically righteous american right. mudede for the win.

She is stupid -- she'll need those losers behind her to organize, fundraise, etc. if she ever wants to mount a successful future campaign. And Hot Springs is close enough -- she should have told the truth, paid a call on the conference during the day, and scooted off to DC for the gala that night. Bad advice. Which I hope she keeps getting.

riiiight....great metaphor:

"[Palin] is molested from childhood by her stepfather. As a young adult she moves from her rural village to find work in factory, where she engages in an affair with her boss. She works later as a maid, and then as a prostitute."

But then, I haven't seen this 1963 movie.

If Palin is an insect, then Mudede is an insect robot.

@12 - _She_ is the puritan. That's kind of the point, really. There's an insistence that if she's going to hold to this ridiculous theology, then she needs to hold to it.

Catalina: Nice LBJ/Cronkite ref - nobody under 45 will get it, but anybody over 45 SHOULD get it.

@6: I don't think Ms Palin even considers the opinions of the GOP ops; she's got her own thing going, and they're at best a meager ally, and at worst an impediment to her ambitions. @3 is probably a lot closer to the truth of the situation, which is pretty scary when you think about it.

It is sad really, when you think of the idiots who voted for bush simply because he was someone they wanted to have a beer with.

These are the same idiots who voted for palin as VP simply because they wanted to fuck her.

Comte, as we all know, a lady NEVER discloses her age. However, I will state unequivocally that I am not yet 45!

I am getting a teensy bit neurotic about it, though, so I need to be treated with therapeutic courtesy.
