Licata Will Decide Whether to Run Again in March

Posted by on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 5:09 PM

Nick Licata—apparently blindsided by the announcement that Jessie Israel is running for his city council position in November—says he won't make any decision or announcement about whether he'll seek reelection until March. Israel has $1,173 in cash on hand; Licata has $8,137... which, if you ask me, isn't the kind of cash you'd have on hand if you were running for reelection.

March, huh. Isn't that when the field for Mayor is supposed to be figured out?

She won a "public-private partnership award", and she's been in charge of selling off county parks and raising fees from those not sold off.

Would someone with some principles please run for office in this town?

Wow, I'm on the edge of my seat.

Jessie is great. She is positive, has an environmental focus and is idealistic. She would make a great Councilmember. And, it would be SO nice to have someone on the Council who is under 40.

Nick needs to be more than the one on an 8-1 vote on issues to earn my vote again. He is outright horrible on transportation issues.

Nick's schtick has grown stale, like many of our councilmembers. I salute Jessie for being willing to take on one our underwhelming city council incumbents in this town.

So, if they've never lived in a Socialist country, isn't it easy to follow the logic and say they're not Socialists?

Never heard of her, but if both Trevor and Mr X are against her she must be doing something right.

Jessie Israel: unprofessional, arrogant, rude. A few people who worked more closely with her than I did spoke favorably about her so I can't definitively say she is incompetent, but I mainly remember seeing her go out for coffee multiple times a day.

She'd probably fit right in with celebrity-politicians. Don't know that that's good.

Jews are always unprofessional, arrogant and rude. So are socialists. Thankfully, I was born with drive and ambition. I got me a man who pays the bills, and I squeezed out a few brats to insure he'll think long and hard before leaving me. If that happens, I'll make his live even more of a living hell than I make it now.

I clawed my way up from White Center, and there's no way I'm leaving Madrona. Even if there are way too many blacks for my taste here, and the other women are a bunch of skinny bitches.

Sure, we could have tried for the eastside, or north of the ship canal, but those places are full of foreigners (more socialists, probably) and uppity orientals. Plus momma won't live north and hates the eastside. She lives in our basement, and helps me keep an eye on hubby. She used to be a stew before she put on all that weight and got busted for stealing mini-bottles, so she knows all about cheaters, knows all the signs.

I've known Jessie for about 20 years, and am really excited that she has decided to run for office. When I first heard she was running the first thought was "of course" followed immediately by "this is definitely a year of good change".

She has always been highly motivated to help the society at large whether it was spending time in the Peace Corps or organizing Base Camp Seattle (organizing and support for women on their way to the International Women's Conference in Beijing, China 1995) or working in her current occupation improving the king county parks system.

She is one of the most upbeat, energetic, and thoughtful people I know. I personally am really excited about her candidacy.

Im not sure where #14 got their information, as that doesn't sound at all like the person I know. Besides, can one really call themselves a Seattlelite and not go out for coffee, whether on their way in to work or for meetings?

But what will the bed wetters do without Licata and city government there to wipe their asses, using my hard earned property taxes? Who will represent the hopeless and angry far left?

What's with the anti-Semitism, Native Washingtonian? That's just a worthless comment that can only be made anonymously. Way to go.

I don't know Jessie Israel personally, but what I've heard about her sounds like she's smart, committed to Seattle, and maybe most importantly, not afraid of making decisions (something the City could benefit from).

It's also pretty ballsy to announce that she is running for Licata's seat. I'm going to check her out.

I recently moved to Seattle so I'm not familiar with Nick Licata's council history, but I'm encouraged when I see younger folks stepping up for public office. And when I say "younger" I don't mean "young"----I simply mean folks that can bring a little zest and fire into a city council, who must of course also be well-qualified with relevant work experience and hopefully a history with the city.

From what it sounds like, getting an award for public-private partnerships is a positive and innovative direction to take a City Council in. Not to mention there's quite a large younger (and politically active) population here in Seattle that I'd be happy to have represented on City Council. I for one am eager to see what Jessie Israel has to bring into the City Council race.
