Is This Real?

Posted by on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 4:07 PM

Is this like the Pong of mentally-manipulated objects?

Or is there a gimmick to it, like mood rings? Why do you have to clip your ear lobes to control a fan with your mind? Has the world gone mad?

The moment he put on the sensors I knew people would be laughing at this in 10 years, much like oversized cellular/car phones.

Yeah, but on the other hand, MOVING THINGS WITH YOUR MIND. This is a great step forward.

Now if only they could somehow combine this with Mousetrap ...

Usually these things work by registering subtle unconscious movements that we make. When we concentrate all sorts of muscles on our head engage and I would guess that's what its picking up on.

I remember many many years ago at some electronic store they had a ski game you could control with your mind. You stuck your finger on this sensor and could make the skier go left and right. All it did was sense the small twitch of the finger people made when thinking about moving the skier left or right.

Of course thats still controlling it with your mind.

I have ADHD and when i was in high school my parents wanted me to try this video game thing that improved your concentration by controlling the character with alpha waves or something. the more alpha waves you produced the better you did at the game. it used sensors stuck to your forehead to measure the waves, so i assume it's the same thing here. No gimmick.
