I Was Going to Call This Post "Rancid Douchebaggery" But That Seemed Too Nice

Posted by on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 12:48 PM

Not that this is going anywhere, but a circle jerk of Republican representatives have introduced a resolution this morning that states, "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in Washington." And they add: "The uniting of two persons other than one male and one female in any marital relationship, although recognized as valid in another jurisdiction, is not recognized as valid in this state."

And that still is not enough. They want to rub it in our faces—right before we vote: "[T]he secretary of state shall cause notice of this constitutional amendment to be published at least four times during the four weeks next preceding the election in every legal newspaper in the state."

This swill leaks from the offices of representatives Shea, Kretz, Condotta, Klippert, Kristiansen, McCune, Herrera, and Short.

Um, Dom, while I do agree this resolution is douchey in the extreme, the publishing it "at least four times" is to make sure that it is advertised and put out there before the voters get to decide whether or not to accept this amendment to our constitution.

The question in my head is how do they define "legal newspaper"? Are they really going to print ads about this constitutional amendment in the Stranger and the Weekly? Or do weekly papers not count as newspapers?

Give 'em a break. They're terrified that their damnation fairy is going to punish us all for our secular humanism and they want to make sure it knows that they weren't in on the human sacrifice, dogs & cats living together, etc.

Ahhh... Brad Klippert. We were so fortunate to have elected him! He is a savior to the Christian Evangelical World. Praise Him and his tongue speaking douchbaggery. Voters here in the 8th had the opportunity to elect a bright moderate D and instead unwittingly checked R and got Klippert. Praise b Jeebbus

Washington State is increasingly unchurched (non-religious to non-sociology wonks) and that's not about to change any time soon. This sort of thing should be expected and helps dismiss fears held by neo-cons and evangelicals that representatives of hardline conservatives aren't doing anything to serve their constituents.

Remember: Proposition 13 was 30 years ago-- please don't pull the sky down because someone is airing out their dirty dirty hateful laundry.

Those guys are dinos.

"Michael Steele was elected Republican National Committee chairman on Friday, defeating the incumbent party chief and three other challengers over six rounds of voting to become the first black to lead the GOP. The former Maryland lieutenant governor takes over a beleaguered GOP as Republicans seek to rebound from back-to-back defeats in national elections that gave Democrats control of Congress and the White House."

Jesus and his apostles were all gay. The trinity was a three way sex thing. The virgin Mary was a lesbian. American fundies are just clueless about their own founders. Now go home and read you Buy-Bull you stupid southern crackers.

A coalition needs to form that puts out pointed propositions that would shave off legislative support for this by rebutting any legislation like this with something evil.

"Taxes can only be applied to the county or taxation district they are collected in with the exception of essential projects with costs in excess of $2bn"

Can we make sure this gets amended with an added provision that, "Once legally married within the State of Washington, no man and woman may legally dissolve their marriage."?

That'll kill this faster than you can say, "no-fault divorce".

What in the HELL are they so AFRAID of? I'm never going to understand that. What earthly difference does it make to them if Ed Murray marries his longtime partner? Do they think their own underpants will suddenly turn lavender, or what?

@ 21 They are hateful bigots. It really isn't a matter of what they are afraid of. They simply want to do everything thay can to make gay people second class citizens. Just like the Nazis did to the Jews in Germany, another group of right wing ignoramus' hatemonger Christians who brought destruction to the world.
