Horrible

Posted by Grant Brissey on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 11:53 AM

This is possibly the worst news story I've read in my entire life.

"(It's) something you hear about from America, not here," said bake shop owner Bie Hoornaert.

Do not read this unless you want your entire weekend ruined (seriously).

Stabbing deaths at a daycare in Belgium. I read the headline and x-ed out.

So why did you post it?

Thank you snargent. I hate the "don't click here bait".

Yeah, all that gun control over there really worked out well.

Way to take the opportunity for a dig at America, classy Belgian man.

why did you post this? at least try to relate this to something local or something topical. otherwise this is just death-porn, which is really FAUX-news' bag.

(even Dan Savage has a pretense of a reason to post those "Every Child Deserves a Mother and a Father" items -- as tenuous as his logic is)

The incidence of this sort of thing is still much less than it is here, 5280. Gee, wonder why that is.

Tragic, but the Dunblane massacre could be worse:

In that latter case there were, perhaps, some warning signs:

Yes! Fifty-Two-Eighty, reliable as ever. No tragedy is too painful for you to can pass up a chance to exploit it for your pet cause. Or even wait a full twenty minutes. Stay classy, my friend.

Crazy people suck. I know it's terrible to say, but sometimes I just want to lock all these violent nutballs up in a building and set it on fire.

@7,

If the guy had had a gun, ALL of those children would be dead. Every. Last. One.

No true Scotsman would have done this.

@ 15, not unless the kids had guns and could return fire.

Maybe one of those kids is the future Belgian Tina Fey.

@14,
Who knows, maybe one of those slaughtered babies would have grown up to be a killer. Perhaps it's all for the best to kill indiscriminately, because you can just assume that you've beneficially changed the future in some way or another by stopping your victim from doing a hypothetical evil.

Grant Brissey --- if you post a tantalizing "ooo, don't read this! it's baaad!" item, without giving a hint of why it is bad, --so that people can decide for themselves if they want to be horrified in that particular way-- then you are essentially making it as irresistable as possible. You are, in action, trying to get people to read this horrible thing you "warn" against.

Weak sauce, dude. Weak sauce.

A great tragedy. :-(

The stupidest thing that Europeans routinely do is assume that X, Y, or Z happens "only" in America, though. Because it ALWAYS also happens in Europe, too.

yeah, america doesn't have nearly as many cannibals as europe. so eat shit, belgium.

@22 That's what I was gonna say! And that guy who had kids with his daughter and locked them all in the basement? Pervy!

Excuse me, Flemish man, but we do not use knives in rampages; we use guns. And, we certainly don't do it at daycare centers.

I will now always associate Flanders with daycare knife rampages.

You wouldn't hear about this in America. He was riding a bike!
Posted by Sir Learnsalot on January 23, 2009 at 1:54 PM

"Prosecutor Christian Du Four said the attacker rode his bike up to the Fabeltjesland center about 10 a.m., entered and immediately began slashing a knife around."

Once again we see the undeniable link between bicycling and violence.

Build more bike lanes?!? Why don't we just stab our own children in the face and cut out the middle man!

Lame way to blog. Ever since "2 girls 1 cup" I've avoided everything labeled "seriously don't click here you'll regret it OMG!" I don't want to see grossout porn, but i'll read about true tragedy if there's something to be learned.

dis on america!

I'm sick of the "if everyone had guns, they could all defend themselves" argument.

it's not a fucking solution.
