The Tyranny of Dan Savage: Ended Again! Enough Already!

Posted by on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 12:54 PM

Look to the right—quickly, before this gets shoved down by 17 super-compelling posts by Dan Savage—and you'll see that our fearless leader has captured every spot on MOST COMMENTED ON SLOG. All of the rest of us are quietly weeping now. We work so hard! We've got not one, nor two, but THREE goddamn writers in Washington DC! What about Wheelcheney WITH Benny Hill music? Or E.C.B.'s latest fascinating update on bike lanes? We huddle together for warmth in Mr. Savage's massive shadow. Cry.

[Title of post updated to reflect NEW HOPE! All commenters below are THE BEST PEOPLE EVER!]

[Author of post updated to reflect MY AWESOME POWER TO EDIT SLOG!—DS]

[Title and author of post updated to reflect original author &etc.! Thank you to Carl for restoring order to the Slog universe! Onward and upward!]

ECB just has to say something about Hillary Clinton being treated in a sexist manner, or something, and there will be 50+ comments calling her an idiot. 100 comments of in-fighting. And 20 more or so will defend her. Or will that still work now? Hmmm...

Of course, another way of looking at this is that Dan says all the stupid shit that gets people all riled up, and that's why he gets so many comments. So it's not so much that the rest of you aren't as interesting, as that your statements are better thought out and less offensive. Want more comments? Isolate a cause your passionate about and post an entry demanding that people who disagree with you about that cause should be murdered and disposed of in some horrifying way. That should get things going.

So, hate to point this out, but if this post ends up being a "most commented on", Dan will still have his name associated with every post (since "Dan Savage" is in the title of this post). Resistance is futile.

I find that it helps if the poster replies to comments in the post, Bethany Jean, as Mr. Savage tends to do. It usually keeps the ball rolling another 10-20 comments.

Here, I'll help out by starting a comment brawl.

I think that everyone in Seattle should be required by law to give up their car, ride fixies and grow beards, and all pitbull owners will have to suffocate their pets with plastic bags, provided at a cost of 20 cents, each.

Also, everyone who commented above me is stupid.

That is because a majority of the posts on this blog (Savage aside) lack compelling content. With the exception of Schmader's posts, which I always find entertaining. I've brought this up before, but I think your readers would find value in multiple RSS feeds, either grouped by subject matter or author. This would be an easy way for readers to sort through content.

Yah really, I kept refreshing to see Slog's inauguration coverage, but all I've seen is someone else's YouTube video and whining about having seats that are too good.

Also, if Lindy West put up Slog posts before 5pm, this post would be titled "The Tyranny of Lindy West."

Bush is the most pro-Savage president we have ever had. America needs to stand strong with Savage now. The Stranger has gone against conventional Seattle wisdom and been pro-Savage. Bush is the best American president Savage has ever known, and many in the Seattle Jewish community appreciate what Bush has done for Savage.

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin',
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues,
Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's you and me baby,
There ain't nothin wrong with that.

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

@32: Mr. Hecht went to DC of his own accord; those other two bums are on the clock.

@39: A fine idea, sir, but I think I ought to save that for a REAL emergency.

And re: the compilation of Most Commented: It counts up the comments from the last 72 hours and is pretty much live (though it is cached, so sometimes it's a little sticky)—so sayeth the webmen.

Thanks again, everybody!

Yes, it is a mystery as to why it disappeared from the list, but I see it is back up now.
Perhaps we need to keep commenting? It only considers fresh comments???

I don't see it back up in the most commented, and if it only considered fresh comments I'd think this would still be way up there.

I think the stranger staff have censored this blog in an attempt to make it disappear.

And if they didn't close it, and no one else came back, would I just keep commenting here?
