Stay Classy, Republicans

Posted by on Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 3:29 PM

How are Republicans celebrating the historic swearing-in of our 44th President, Barack Hussein Obama?

By blocking the confirmation of his secretary of state, praying that the "evil" new president fails, trying to make the moniker "Sun King" stick, saying, "I hope Obama fails," whining that there's nothing to celebrate, and slagging on his speech.

Don't ever stop showing your true colors, guys.

Chattering nutbags, what would we do without them?

It's a shame how much they hate America.

When will they move to Paraguay?

Truth be told, I found the speech a little lacking myself. It was dull where it should have been inspirational, and didn't get optimistic until after the laundry list of downers had been recited. It just needed more of that magical Negro superhero MSNBC kept talking about.

Remember back a few years ago when we couldn't say anything bad about Bush without being called an un-American terrorist and then were shunned by the country?! (poor dixie chicks) I think it's time to bring that back and start our own movement to silence the anti-Obama, un-American terrorists.

Seriously deranged motherfuckers. What cracks me up is how many of them actually make the statement that Bush was a great president. I mean, really - how badly fucked-up would you have to be to believe that?

I actually un-friended a friend on Facebook today over her anti-Obama and generally nasty comments today. I know, it's so 2009 of me.

My favorite remarks from Repugnicans is that Bush did not diminish the respect our country had among the international community, and that Obama has not gained any trust or respect from that same community (who's falling over themselves to talk with an affable, intelligent president? OH THAT'S RIGHT THE ENTIRE FUCKING EUROPEAN UNION)

When will Obama stop tossing these rabid dogs bones and let them eat each other alive already?

We are of two basic cultures, and always have been.

The Republicans being pushed farther and farther to the right isn't helping, unless they keep going that way and fade into irrelevance and a new party emerges. While I don't agree with how Obama is choosing to build bridges in some ways (like Rick Warren), at least he's trying to heal this.

As long as we have a sizable population that is deeply susceptible to religious fundamentalism and living in monocultural communities that don't have to directly deal with the rest of the world, there will be a political party that is incapable of reconciling its world view with a more sophisticated outlook.

The uncompromising right wing beliefs that their way is the only way, and those who question it are destined straight for hell make for non-starters of any meaningful dialog. This was my basic problem with Rick Warren being included. You simply can't get anywhere from that position. It is dangerous and futile to try.

@2 - I would suck it, but then I'd get aids.

Seriously, as the token conservative on the slog, let me announce that I hope nothing but the best for our new president and country.

The rest of you - my balls, your mouth.

This coming from all the classy commentary that is posted on the slog? Pretty laughable

A while back Olberman, writing about one of Shrub's many acts of malfeasance, quoted John Wayne's gracious statement about John Kennedy -- "I didn't vote for him, but he's my president, and I hope he does a good job."
When the Republicans turn their backs on graciousness? What's wrong with these people? They had eight of years of everything they said would bring the U.S. greatness and the world peace, and at the end of it all, the U.S. is in financial ruin, embroiled in a war it can't win, so scarred by chronic fear as to be reduced to arguing for acceptance of torture as a common means of gaining military information.
What could President Obama possibly do that would be worse than the systematic defilement of the country that the Bush administration has wreaked over the last 8 years?

Calling for three hours of debate on whether or not there should be more transparency in one of the highest offices in our country is nothing I will criticize anyone for.

The action was in no way intended to prevent HRC from serving, it was all about billions of dollars flowing into Bill's accounts from foreign governments. REASONABLE TO ME! In fact, I wish the Dems had thought to ask some of the same questions of the outgoing cabinet members.

Everyone in congress agrees that HRC has the support and will be confirmed, there are just a few questions yet to be asked... big deal. Is it a conspiracy because ONE of Obama's cabinet posts DID NOT get rubber-stamped?

Keep digging, ECB. Your pouty attempts at spin get more pathetic each day.
