And the Band Marched On

Posted by on Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 5:40 PM

I'm surprised that the Secret Service didn't tackle the dude with the baton.

You're assuming the Secret Service could tackle the dude w/the baton.

I just got weepy for approximately the 17th time today. ADORABLE.

I heard more Sousa today than in the past 10 years combined.

Also, I loved how the entry following the band was the "trail maids" in the crazy southern hoop skirt dresses. I was like, are those people part of the gay band?

Who is Holly and why is she screeching at me?

Yeah! I am glad to see them, and their talent acknowledged.

I too thought that those hoop skirt babes were part of the LGBA.

The announcer is awful. Aw. Ful. The band was great. There can never be too much Sousa. Way to go tlgb bandies! And I thought the group behind them was a gaggle of drag queens. Awesome.

I've been a member of LGBA for only 6 months, and I wish with all my heart I could have marched there today, but I know that I will never be so proud of my organization as I was today. You guys were amazing. You brought tears to my eyes.

@5 Holly Morris is kind of a ninny, but I forgive her for screeching - she'd been on the air for about 12 hours, and her voice is starting to go.

Wow, baton man defines "flaming"

Major props to the planner of the parade--clearly a very sly queen--for scheduling the Lovely Maids in their Rainbow Pastel Hoopskirts RIGHT AFTER the LGBA.

I also teared up a little while watching this.

Savage, your baton control is awe inspiring.

I don't think green is your color though. Makes you look fat.

They were pre-empted by commercials on CNN Television (not the live internet stream), and also, apparently, just before broadcasts cut off on many local stations.

LGBA needs to be in the first half of the parade.

I don't think any major cable news station showed the band because Bush started his show right before the band went on.
We were watching CSPAN because that was the only channel that we knew wouldn't cut away.
The Lovely Maids were a fantastic touch. We called them the Cupcake Drag Queens. And Michelle seemed so confused to see them as they walked by the stand. Hilarious.

I'll take obscure gay movie references for a thousand, Alex..
