That Other Illinois Seat

Posted by Chicago Fan on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 7:44 AM

That'd be Rahm's. It's not for sale—a special election is already scheduled. Word on the street is he wants a seat-warmer, so he can return for it after the Obama administration, then move up to Speaker someday. But which politically-connected Chicago ass will occupy CD IL-5 Rahmbo returns? Depends on whose glutes get smooched. The invaluable Carol Marin explains.

@2, hey now, we all know we can never question Israel in any way or form. And even if they shoot nukes into Gaza we will support them!

Naaa Rahmbo's sights will be higher ...perhaps cabinet post, or ambassadorship, or senator, shit, that's a natural, Burris is kinda old, and he'd have Prez O campaigning for him in the primary. Or Rahmbo could be running for VP in 8 years. And that seat-warmer technique ? That works thru appointment, when the warmer gets the seat handed to him, with a big string attached. It doesn't work when the seat warmer dude has to campaign and raise money and shit. Anyone who wins an election ain't giving up the seat later.

The Zam Zam banquet hall? Zam Zam is the name of course, of the well in Holy Makkah, revealed to Hagar by the Archangel Gabriel.

Why would Rahm Emanuel's successor be picked in a Muslim banquet hall? For the irony?

@Ishmael--there are a lot of Arab-Americans in Chicago, and this particular place is owned by a Muslim, but that matters not in Chicago's electoral politics. It's a popular West Side place for weddings, funerals, and other such stuff.
