Written Word Spoken

437_jpg_280x450_q85.jpgSlog tipper Scary Tyler Moore sends a link to this BBC page, which has audio files of poems written by every poet nominated for the 2008 T.S. Eliot Prize. It's useful, sometimes, to hear poems read aloud. And it's also a useful workday diversion.

The winner of the prize this year is Jen Hadfield, who wrote a book called Nigh-No-Place. Her winning the T.S. Eliot Prize is overshadowed by the fact that one of the contenders, Mick Imlah, passed away on the eve of the prize ceremony after a long illness. There is much more about him here. You can read one of his poems here.

"Scary Tyler Moore" (sic) don't know whoopity-flop about poetry. You know what real poetry is? Jim Morrison. "Killer on the road/Your brain is squirming like a toad." That, my friends is Pure. American. Genius.

So enough of this crap about Walt Whitman, Theodore Roethke and Heather McHugh. ENOUGH! Gimme gimme gimme Jimbo!
