Carl on Classmates.com

Posted by Bethany Jean Clement on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 4:01 PM

Carl is the name Anthony Hecht, our resident genius of the Information Superhighway, gave our blog platform. I slogged about Carl once when he was new and some (impatient) people were mad at him.

Now Carl's getting email from Classmates.com.

Anthony cannot answer how Classmates.com figured out they could email Carl at editor@thestranger.com. Furthermore, he says Carl was home-schooled (yet well-socialized). (Mandan High's for losers!) Maybe Carl can join the pending class-action lawsuit.

Mandan? As in North Dakota? Lucky that Carl got out. Naming a town after a deceased Native American tribe is never a good omen.

I just recently started receiving Classmates spam on a work e-mail address which I almost never use to send messages outside the company. Its amusing to see how they try to fool you into thinking the content is legitimate.

Mandan people party harder. They will outdrink, outlast, outfun anybody. I have witnessed this many, many times. Girls, boys, whatever: if they're from Mandan, they will kick your ass when it comes to partying. Don't even try.

Also, Mandan has some of the most fabulous dive bars known to man. The Roundup, on Main Street in Mandan, features plastic lawn furniture, darts, and up to $25-a-hand blackjack. Most importantly, they burn all their drinks (although the most-burned drinks award goes to the Comfort Inn in Bismarck).
