The Morning News

Posted by on Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 8:38 AM

State of Emergency: Washington (where flooding continues but interstate commerce does not.)

A Nation Unprepared: Obama urges delay in digital TV transition.

Debe Tragar!: In the midst of a chewed-gum litter plague, a Mexico City official tells citizens to swallow their damn gum.

Virulent Virus: This year's flu is freakishly resistant to leading antiviral drug.

Impeach the Fucker: Illinois House committee's unanimous recommendation for Governor Rod Blagojevich.

The Tension Builds: While the Seattle Times quotes reports that the Seattle Post-Intelligencer is not long for this world, the publisher of the P-I promises more info soon (like, later today.)

Morning News Hiphop Week began with the assertion that videos rarely make music better and ends with with a glorious refutation of that claim, in the form of the video for Salt n' Pepa's "Push It," a sturdy hiphop classic that reaches its apotheosis in this video, which fills me with whatever the Salt n' Pepa equivalent of Beatlemania is. (Pretty much everything you need to see is in the first minute in a half, which I recommend watching at least six times in a row. It's a pop-editing miracle.)

HAPPY JANUARY 9, 2009, MOTHERFUCKERS!

From "Why Do Men Have Nipples?" by Mark Leyner and Billy Goldberg, M.D.:

"Chewing gum is not digestible but it definitely doesn't sit in your stomach for years. Gum actually might help things move through the bowels faster: Sorbitol is sometimes used as a sweetener in gum and this can act like a laxative. What does this mean? Yes, if you look carefully, you should see it floating next to all of those lovely yellow corn kernels."

Squirrel for dinner!

I personally think the video where they teamed up with En Vouge is much more classic (and way hotter).

It is refreshing to see "Impeach the Fucker" and it's not about Bush.

David, that's RoD Blagojevich. As in "Spare the Rod, and spoil the child."

What the fuck happened to DJ's, B-boys and B-girls? I know I'm old, but sometimes I really miss old skool--skratchin' and body poppin'!

Krugman said today the p roposed Obama stimulus package is only one third of a loaf. IOW it will FAIL to avert depression. NYT: liberal senators criticizing package for being too laden with trickle down tax cuts, a core GOP principle. All this is due to desire to get 80 or 88 votes. There's certainly no effort to mobilize grass roots support on his 11 million e m network. So instead of using the Maine netroots OBamatons to push Collins and snow to vote yes, Obama is watering down his package to make insiderish deals by including lots of business tax cuts.

In sports-related news, Western cut their football program after…. That's really too bad, for a small school they had a solid program and some great history.

Nearly everyday, when that song was on the charts, it was blared from Mr. Johnson's art class in a South Tacoma middle school. We never got tired of that song. Damn, I still love it! I don't know how he got away with it, but that shit is live.

Pigeons are better.

Just call it squab and use some soy based teriyaki sauce, @5.

@12 - it is only part one. Part two is Rebuilding America and part three is Single-Payer Nationalized Health Care, where we borrow the Canadian system to save on costs and stick it to the man. Deal with it!
