Anniversaries Today

Posted by Christopher Frizzelle on Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 6:48 AM

1349 - The Jewish population of Basel, Switzerland, believed by the residents to be the cause of the ongoing bubonic plague, were rounded up and incinerated.

1857 - The Fort Tejon earthquake of California occurs, registering an estimated magnitude of 7.9.

1968 - The only known snowfall in Mexico City occurs; additional snow falls on January 10 and 11.

Good morning! How'd you sleep?

(Also: Dave Matthews' birthday. Wikipedia, you're so weird.)

Wait a minute! Ben Stein taught me in "Expelled, No Intelligence Allowed" that Darwin was responsible for the persecution of Jews. How could that happen in the 1300s?

Dave Matthews' birthday? Well, I'll be sure to give him a celebratory kick in the nuts if I see him around town. Actually, I'd use just about any excuse to kick Dave Matthews in the nuts.

I really don't think you could blame the Jews for the Fort Tejon earthquake of '57.

@5 You know it. I prefer to think of today as Jimmy Page's birthday.

Slept pretty well.

But, then, all my Jewish relatives are dead, almost all of them in the camps, thanks for asking.

Like almost everything else that you feel you need to mention, Will, nobody actually asked you about that, and nobody actually cares.

I was lead to believe that it snows relatively commonly in Mexico City. It's just fecal snow (which is what happens when a sewer pipe bursts or people just throw shit in the streets/canals/any available water, and the resulting sewage dries up in the sun, and then flakes off in the wind, sometimes creating drifts and other incredibly nasty faux-snow phenomenae), not snow snow.

Thank you, AP Environmental Science for teaching me the important things in life!
