@6 ohhhhh i see. because something isn't a headline it must not exist. there are plenty of stories of other large dogs killing children. Get rid of the pit bull and stupid dog owners will buy a different breed and turn it into a monster.
Nobody's stopping YOU from posting all those dozens of "other breeds of killer dogs that aren't pit-bulls stories" here in the comments, so, you know, knock yourself out buddy.
Pitbull owners, if you are in denial about the potential violence in your pet, you are as much of a menace as the thugs who buy the dogs because of their ferocity.

How come you guys missed the story about the cocker spaniel that chewed off a child's face requiring 30 stitches and extensive plastic surgery for the poor little girl?
Check it out at www.FABBseattle.org in our discussion board section. We keep track of the less sensational stories just to show that do happen.

Let's acknowledge that the boy is indeed a bad ass. I can't understand how the dog couldn't just spin around, stomp his feet into the boy's stomach and rip the boy's face off. That's incredible.
Hard to take your word for those two @17/18, since the second links are also broken.
So, aside from these, in the remaining three "examples" we have two instances of what witnesses and authorities describe as "likely provocation"; in the one instance, a witness cites the child choking the dog, and in the other the child apparently wandered into the yard while the dogs were eating and was perceived as a potential threat to their food. The latter could be considered a somewhat weak provocation, granted, but it at least provides a rational explanation for the dog's behavior.
So, that leaves you with: 2 unverifiable links; 2 attacks characterized as "provoked"; and one unprovoked.
Which brings the current score to:
Unprovoked pit bull attacks= several gazillion
Unprovoked non-pit bull attacks = one
This is a very ignorant campaign to be launching against Pit Bulls as a breed. They aren't inherently violent. In the early parts of the 20th century they were seen as the perfect family dog. great with children, etc. It was only in the mid part of the century when they were bred to be fighting dogs, and violence was encouraged. Sure, it's a powerful breed, but they are ALL products of their environment. It is completely ignorant to write them all off just because of the social stigma attached. Pit bulls are not prone to random acts of violence unless it's encouraged in their upbringing, plain and simple.
And the reason you don't hear about Golden Retrievers mauling kids is because Golden Retrievers aren't bred with the intent to fight each other.

Okay...I am an idiot and I can't post a link to save my own life.
Anyway. When ANY other dog attacks...It reads just like that:DOG attack. You have to read to the end of the aricle to find out what kind of dog it was. The breed is practically irrelevent...BUT if that dog had a blocky head YOU BET they would call it a pit and throw that label on to sell papers and SCARE us all. I grew up terrified of pit bulls b/c of this. Most of us did.Or remain terrified. Or disgusted.
Even if we say we are not influenced by the media, we are. These subtlties work against us and our dogs. (laugh, but it is true)You can say...Well, I would NEVER own a "Fighting" Dog. Yeah, well, I wouldn't either. I own loving energetic dogs that I am responsible for. 2 pit bulls. A lab. And a Mini Greyhound.

@21 - Maybe they used to be nice family dogs, but they're not anymore. Years of breeding them to be violent has produced a violent breed. The fact that the breed used to be different is 100% irrelevant to what the breed is now.
And these isolated examples of other breeds killing people are just as meaningless. You can kill someone with a feather if you try, but that doesn't make it just as dangerous as a loaded gun.
Certain dog breeds have insanely powerful jaws that can kill with one bite. They've also been bred for years to fight and to highlight their aggressive side, so these traits tend to run in those breeds. So, these dogs are generally more dangerous than other dogs with less powerful jaws and less violent histories. When these dogs lose control, they do much more serious damage than most other dogs. All the laws we have that protect citizens from danger (seatbelts, jaywalking, etc., etc.) are based on statistics like these, not absolutes.
My main question is why do people get these dogs? It's like choosing to buy a car with the highest chance of exploding. There are other cars out there that don't tend to explode as often, get one of those.

The whole pit bull powerful jaw BS is a total lie and if people would do proper research before just lettting their piehole run free they would see that.
There are 28 breeds that were bred as "Fighting Dogs". Pit bulls just get the most public attention.
others include:
1)Boston Terriers (cutesy wittle wap dogs)
2)Cairn Terriers(banned from fighting rings in the 1930's as they would turn on their handlers, bite their wrists and cause them to bleed out..look it up... I am not joking)
3)Boxers
4)German Shepherds (used to disembowel live humans during WWII)Also used in dog fights today
People choose dogs for different reasons. Sadly many choose pits fot the WRONG reasons.Groups like FABB are trying to enact laws that will keep certain types of criminals from owning dogs and penalize irresponible dog owners.
More people are coming to own pits beacuse they understand that they are a greatly abused and misunderstood breed. This is what we need...More good homes for more good dogs:)

Quick, someone do an experiment to see how powerful a pitbull jaw is in comparison to other dogs that bite! @25, you're not doing anything right now, are you?

A 1998 National Geographic Study Revealed that NO dog has a jaw strength greater than 300 PSI. A German Shepherds is strongest, I think around 280 then Rottie, then Pit bull..there is a youtube video somewhere that varifies this (recreates the study). And a pit bull DOES NOT have a locking jaw.

Yeah, and all those gay guys out there. They just go around infecting innocent people with HIV/AIDS. Gay people should be banned as a menace to society and a danger to human beings.
"In the end, 47 of the 51 Vick dogs were saved. (Two died while in the shelters; one was destroyed because it was too violent; and another was euthanized for medical reasons.)"
The December 29, 2008 issue of "Sports Illustrated" features an article about the pit bulls rescued from Vick's Bad Newz Kennels. You can read it here: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/ma….
