Pure Class

Posted by Dan Savage on Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 4:31 PM

Remember how the Obama family couldn't move into the Blair House early because, according to the White House, the place was booked up? It was a lie—an expensive, pointless, graceless, classless lie.

Like somebody competent would be put in charge of the Bush legacy project.

Yes, it probably was -- but I'd want more evidence than some journalist's 'feeling' about it...

Oh, like this is a big surprise to anyone.

Turns out that a certain MSNBC investigative journalist of the non-straight persuasion dug this out with the help of a few willing helpers.

Kudos!

And the ex-Aussie PM wasn't even booked there when they lied to the Obamas about it being taken.

Lying is a sin, Christianists.

It was just simply rude of the Obama's to ask to stay there so early. No other incoming presidential family has ever been so presumtious.

Rude? Presumptuous? To ask to stay an additional 11 days so that their daughters could start attending their school when the semester began? To ask to stay in a location that is already secure during that time (thus saving taxpayers money on security - I thought conservatives were all over saving taxpayers' money, raindrop)? When no previously scheduled guests would have been kicked out?

Good to see Bush keeping it classy to the end. As usual.

@5 and what about the lying, is that rude?

Perhaps Bush could leave early, then.

Why did Al Gore not pursue the Al Franken strategy in the 2000 Election in Florida?

Did Bush stay in Blair House in 2000? Did Clinton in 1992? Has any incoming president stayed there before the inauguration? I'm sorry, I'm not feeling this one. Obama is the next president, not God or the Pope or something. He's not the Queen of England. These politicians are not royalty.

@12 Do you pay attention? They've all stayed at Blair House. All the Obamas were asking for was an extra week and a half for their daughters.

Standard practice is that the president-elect stays at the Blair House starting on the 15th until the inauguration.

Sorry, compared to his other sins -- bankrupting the country while invading a sovereign country to show his dad he's not a weenie -- denying his successor a favor is lost in the noise.

A left-wing talking head invites on left-wing alternative journalist who says she has a feeling that Bush has behaved ungraciously to Obama, and I'm supposed to take this seriously? If Rush Limbaugh had on Ann Coulter to say she had a feeling that Clinton had behaved ungraciously to Bush, what would you think?

For all I know, this particular story about Blair House is true. But less partisan commentators, including the Obama team, have judged repeatedly that, on the whole, the Bush Administration has handled the transition with unprecedented effeciency and good will. And that's much more important than any minor slight that partisans sieze on to satistfy the last gasps on their hate-fueled Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Politeness is the courtesy of kings. The Blair House - commonly known as the President's guest house - served the Trumans as their residence while the White House was being rebuilt in the early '50s. Whoever was booked there could have been easily re-located to the Hay-Adams.

As in so many things BushLeague, who could be shocked by this final act of churlishness? Pick up this month's copy of Vanity Fair for a sorry oral history of W's eight-year shipwreck and understand from where "hate-fueled" tendency is derived, Mr. Wright.

I don't care if W or Cheney ever spend a day in jail; however, I think proper penance for them would be to travel the country in their bullet-proof Escalades and go to the door of every home in America where a man or a woman lived who has been killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, fall on their knees and ask forgiveness of the survivors who answer the door.

No Mr. Wright, it's total assholery. And the Obamas are saying the Bushes handled everything well, to be nice. They're lying, obviously.

It's not only assholery it's fucking insecure. And on top of that it costs a lot of money and it inconveniences a whole lot of USA citizens (despite yoru colonization of DC the folks there are Americans you know) to have a whole noth sector blocked off for security.

And remember Blair House has THIRTY FIVE BEDROOMS.

And there's extra bedrooms in the White house, remember? The twins don't live there any more. Why not put them up there?

Why not put them up in Dick Cheney's VP mansion?

Because Bush doesn't like black people.

Shit, he had to organize a white boys luncheon so they could give the presidency to Obama and tell him to be careful with it.

Given the surplus space, this lyling is a deliberate slight. The Obamas have put up with far worse. don't hijack their graciousness to let the lying mean racist unconstiutional antiAmerican George Bush off the hook.

You see, I don't hate him. I just hate his ideas, and his actions, because they are all a mask for arrogance, evil power, and lying, like this episode shows.

How many bedrooms at Blair House are empty? Thirty four?

Fnarf: I kinda like my money and I'd rather not pay outrageous bills for security when the same services could be provided for way cheaper. But, I guess Bush has never cared about the common tax payer only the royal non-payers.

BTW, I do support any (and all and way more than anyone has ever had) security that the secret service feels it needs to keep the Obama + family safe. Not because he is Jesus re-incarnate--and he is--but because he has two young kids and I rather like the man. (But, then again I am a Christian).

With this little FU to Obama, probably more importantly to all Democrats, and moving into a "gated" community in Texas where the color of your skin is a factor has shown what a gargantuan fucking douchebag Bush is.

My only wish is that we never see Bush attempt any humanitarian efforts that Carter or Clinton, etc. have done. Bush should just be lost in a dark cave of media blackout until his end of days.

John Howard? John Fucking Howard?? The man who lost the election by a landslide, and the first post-war sitting Australian Prime Minister to lose his seat?

Christ, the Holiday Inn wouldn't move a hobo in the lobby to make room for John Howard, these days.

Lol!

America has only one President at a time! Remember?

Obama and Bush are clever on this one. Israel has an important war going, and Obama wants to avoid commenting as long as possible because White House war strategy calls for a sharp escalation in military conflict in 2009.

Obama needs us all to support Israel and the coming escalation of war with Pakistan.

So by all means distract the Christian idiots in Seattle with nonsense about guest houses Dan. It's a good way to avoid commenting on the war.

Dan you sort of blew it by coming out so pro-war in Iraq. It's a good idea to tacitly support Israel by making distracting postings about nonsense.

We need more war to bring about peace. As Jews in Seattle we must always support Israel, and The Stranger is right in being so pro-Israel while all the other media is asking embarassing questions.

Israel is the most righteous nation on earth. I love being Jewish and I love Israel!
