Have the Razzies Nuked the Fridge?

Posted by Paul Constant on Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 3:47 PM

This whole post is totally worth it just for the headline.

Anyway. the Razzies nominating ballot was released today. Here is the list of Worst Movie nominees:

Speed Racer, Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, The Day the Earth Stood Still, High School Musical 3, The Hottie & the Nottie, Dungeon Siege, The Love Guru, Postal, Rambo, The Happening, Meet Dave, Witless Protection

I'm shocked by the lack of inclusion of two major franchises: Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the WTF. I think The Day the Earth Stood Still was too boring to be Worst Picture, but many of the others on the list are worthy of being there. Putting High School Musical 3 on the list seems a little teenage boy-ish of the nominators, frankly. And nowhere on the list of nominees are Punisher: War Zone or Seven Pounds. There were a bunch of lousy movies released at the end of the year in 2008. In fact, maybe this list was simply produced too soon and didn't include any year-end stinkers? It didn't have any nominees from this movie, after all:

I like that "...is to insult packing material." That's funny.

I'm too lazy to find out the answer to this myself... but... are those real scenes from The Spirit? Because, damn.

Speed Racer does NOT belong on that list.

The Clone Wars movie was really four (or six, I forget) of the 20-minute TV episodes (targeting kids, fyi) strung together to be released on the big screen (cf. how they're doing the current Futurama direct-to-DVD movies). It's not really a movie but a TV marathon.

I agree about Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

But you just need to see Speed Racer in 3D or IMAX ...

I thought it was just me but Speed Racer was terrible. Boring. First movie I acutally walked out in the middle.

A list of 2008's worst movies will soon run in the Seattle Gay News under the title "2008'S BEST MOVIES" by Rajkhet Rashid.

Is Baz Luhrman's "Australia" thing mentioned? That one was about as big a financial A-bomb as "Speed Racer"...

I keep thinking of more shitty movies not mentioned ("Mama Mia", "Hancock", "Mummy 4 or Whatever", "One Missed Call", "The Eye", Jumper", "10,000 BC", "Drillbit Taylor", "Superhero Movie" Marley & Me", "Don't Mess With Zohan", "American Carol", "Expelled", "Will Ferrell Product")-- this was a really really bad year for movies.

Those movies listed were full of suck. I don't think they were as epic as either the Nuked Fridge or the Cartoon Star Wars... but if you want both at once:

did y'all know that if you walk out in the first 20 minutes of a film, you can get your money back ?..i learned this after enduring 17 minutes of 10,000 b.c.. the cinerama guy actually said 'yeah i heard it was pretty bad'and handed ous our 18(!) bucks back. after twenty minutes i think they have to give you a free pass to something else.. but all this has to happen before the end of the first hour.

when you know better, you do better

Rambo doesn't belong on the list. Rambo III was a train wreck... way worse than Rambo, and that thing wasn't nominated.

What the fuck, Paul? Indy 4 was a masterpiece compared to Temple of Doom.

I liked Meet Dave. How does Eddy Murphy look so young?
