Connelly Logic

Posted by on Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 1:20 PM

Connelly's latest column, in argument form:

1. The city retrofitted school buildings after an earthquake in 1965.

2. No kids were killed after the earthquake in 2001.

THEREFORE,

3. If the city invests in snow-clearing equipment in 2009, no kids will be killed in the next snowstorm.

A COROLLARY:

4. Investing millions in snowplows and de-icing materials will SAVE KIDS.

On the other hand, the city could just plow Joel Connelly's route to work next time and save itself millions of dollars and the P-I thousands of gallons of ink.

The city could just buy jeol Connelly an AWD vehicle with a plow attachment on the front, and he could plow his own way, and help out his neighbors as well.

Not sure who ECB has more of a hate boner for: Joel Connelly or Monica Guzman.

On Monday, as the City Council gently probed, Seattle Transportation Department chief Grace Crunican erected an in-depth defense that was as easy to slide on as a major arterial during the December snows.
Is he trying to sound pornographic?

I'm all for more plows, as long as they're pulled by teams of Musk Oxen.

"The City Council must ride herd. A Mrs. Doubtfire of the nanny state, Council President Richard Conlin should put aside separating garbage and riding herd on what we eat. City services deserve a laserlike focus."

??
Sorry crazy man, I don't have any change on me.

i love how people who can work from home don't give a shit about people who don't have that option and end up losing money because they can't make it into work because a city is too stupid to have a sensible plan in place for a snow emergency.

i hope a resident facility of the wheelchair bound moves somewhere along ECB's bus route, doubling her commute time and her blood pressure...

I liked the passing reference to some Catholic priest calling the police chief to get him to (successfully) turn out some plows to plough the streets around the Cathedral.
So if you are wondering why your favorite arterial was not plowed, one reason might be that some people apparently are able to divert our scarce plow resources from crucial public arterial clearing to frivolous private sidestreet clearance.

why, exactly, can't joel connelly work from home?

People, it was a weather emergency. These things happen decades apart. No power can prevent them. I don't blame the Mayor. I don't blame the City Council. Get over it.

You know, some people skied to work after the snowfall.

Maybe Connelly could live closer to his work instead?

ECB, your obsession with JC is, well, like being trapped in a herd of Musk Oxen that form a circle around you and...............................sorry, my mind wondered off there...what was I saying?

ECB, JC does have a point. The city failed in providing a basic service -- clearing the roads in anything resembling a competent and timely manner. Sure, it was a lot of snow, sure Seattle doesn't always get that much snow, sure, the city doesn't have 100 snow plows, but it's not unreasonable to expect the city to do SOMETHING about impassable roads. A lot of people expected the city to do a better job. A lot of people are ticked off at the city for its failure to do a better job. It's a legitimate complaint.
