i didn't get it-- what made her so qualified to be commerce secretary that everyone thought this was a done deal?

I guess that rules out the romantic getaway with Tom Skerritt?

I hope you strangers have learned a valuable lesson from this about jumping to conclusions. A wise man once said "Never assume. It makes an ASS of U and ME"

(Not to mention that the Principal is your PAL, a secretary is one who keeps SECRETS, and there's a rat in sepARATe. If you need any more spelling tips, please feel free to telex me.)

whew--now everyone can start searching for the next Slog-obsession.
Black Cali Hets killed gay marriage, Done.
Rick Warren is a bad man, Not Quite Done (expect flare-ups around Jan 20).
Chrissie in the Cabinet, Over.
Next...?

Whew! No Governor Brad "Hey Kids Don't Do Drugs; Be Like Me and My Pal Dino Rossi" Owen. At least for now.

Chrissie is going to announce that she has an ongoing relationship with Barack and Michelle. She will release a video at 10 am today.

Heartbroken. I was really looking forward to a Gov Rossi.

*Yawn.* Time to move on to wild speculation about the next non-story.

@1,2: Speculation is important now that the media is going down the tubes!

Assumptions, guesses, wild conjecture-- they make for a great national pastime!

Anyone else feel it was really irresponsible of Gregoire to allow so many people to think that she would be appointed Commerce Sec?
The no comment answers to all those questions by her staff seem very calculated and a new low for the governor as she tried to send the message to people that they are lucky she is governor.

@10, hahahah, "lucky she is governor". All this means is that she'll come home to a more hostile environment, demanding andswers for the budget, the viaduct, 520, etc. I don't think this "rah rah USA" distraction will work well in Seattle (perhaps she'll gain a tenth of a point outside Seattle, where they don't want the viaduct replaced anyhow).

I didn't think she'd leave us with Brad Owen, I would think Obama would be that smart too :D

Unless Gregoire's point was to make Brad Owen himself think he was about to become governor, I dare say this hasn't been fun.

Oh who cares if she's visiting the troops in Iraq. She's a bit late to the party over there. Unless this is supposed to set her up to look good for something bigger in the next election cycle.

Perhaps, and I still hold out hope, she'll be announcing something useful to our state while she's there.

even if they are fake, i love the pro-Rossi trolling here. Had Rossi won as Gov and gone out to visit troops in Iraq, there would be unwavering support for him doing this. But Gregoire doing this is just a "PR Stunt"

@15, had Rossi won as Gov then we'd already have decisions on the budget, the viaduct, and 520. Alot of people wouldn't *like* the decisions, but you'd have them. Just sayin.

If SLOG hadn't mentioned it, would anyone have noticed?

She spent the first 3 years of her first administration doing zip ... same as it ever was...

Rossi would have done even less, like he's done all this time. He can't even talk straight when even slightly pressured.

Hell, I would have been less fearful of fucking Dave Reichert than Rossi if the former ran for Gov instead. Rossi has squandered his time far more than Gregoire, which is saying a lot.

@11 Didn't you pay attention to the election? People in Seattle don't want the Viaduct rebuilt either.
