Chow / Politics Not Just Any New Food Blog

This one's by political junkies Ezra Klein (of the American Prospect), Matthew Yglesias (of Think Progress, and Ben Miller and Sara Mead of the New America Foundation. It's (modestly) called the Internet Food Association and its initial incarnation includes posts on walnut oil, the new biopic about Julia Child, and grilled cheese. How is it? Too soon to say, obviously, but (as a political wonk who moonlights as a pretty hardcore amateur food junkie), I'm a fan of the concept. Except, Ben Miller? You take back what you said about White Castle. You know not whereof you speak.

I come from the home of White Castle (and Wendy's -- my hometown once boasted having the highest number of fast-food restaurants per capita and I believe it.) I ate a lot of sliders (also locally known as "ratburgers") and can confirm that they are of sub-Dick's quality, and barely qualify as food at all. I can't even honestly recommend them for late night snacking after the bar has closed, as you will wake up hung over with the smell of onions exuding from your pores.

Damn, now I'm getting kinda nostalgic for the disgusting things...

White Castle is pasty steamed-meat bullshit. Down South we got Krystal: same thing, except the little square patties are fried on a griddle like God intended. Then the grease soaks into the lower square bun, becoming a kind of Wonder bread-meat pudding that is so delicious people just peel off the bottom bun and eat it first. It's like fast-food marrow.
