The Lady Vanishes

Posted by on Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 4:32 PM

From the AP/P-I:

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Gov. Chris Gregoire is out of state, but her office won't say where she is.

Gregoire was set to be the keynote speaker Tuesday at a pre-legislative session forum sponsored by The Associated Press, but her office canceled Monday afternoon. Legislative director Marty Brown will stand in for Gregoire at the forum.

Spokesman Pearse Edwards said that Gregoire will be making an announcement Tuesday morning, and that no further information would be released before then.

She missed her deadline to pick a Viaduct replacement option. She's being pummeled—and sued—over her crappy, crappy budget. And now she has, apparently, gone AWOL.

Office speculation: She landed a job in the Obama administration. Or just snapped her chain.

Either way, it'd be a step up.

An appointment to the Obama administration: that's one way to get out of having to make a decision about the fucking Viaduct.

Possibilities:
1) Appointment to Obama administration (based on AG experience, not Gov. experience -- I hope)
2) Illness (personal or family)
3) Threats ("YOU LET SEATTLE STEAL THIS ELECTION!")

So if Gregoire becomes CS, then the Dem Lt Governor will appoint a Dem as Lt Gov while becoming Governor (good thing nobody listened to The Stranger or we'd have a Republican for both Governor and Lt. Governor).

And then, in the game of musical chairs, that nominee, let's call him Ron Sims, could have their seat filled.

It's beginning to look a lot like Chrismakuh!

I think the concept of her coming back with money for "shovel ready" (snicker) projects like the viaduct, 520 and light rail sounds more credible.

The tobacco settlement is the biggest national feather in her cap and I personally don't see how that translates to the Commerce sec, which is a more-important-than-usual cabinet position what with "the economy" etc etc. I suppose you never know, Obama could surprise everyone.
