First Day Flickr

Posted by Eli Sanders on Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 9:40 AM

The Obama transition team, continuing a practice from the presidential campaign, has posted a few behind-the-scenes Flickr photos of Sasha and Malia heading off to their first day of school in Washington, D.C.

Yes, I wanted to see this. No, I'm not sure the world really needs a Flickr album of every significant Obama family happening. Yes, even so, I am looking forward to more of them—and to finding out what else our techy president-elect has up his direct-communication sleeve.

The Prez is telling his oldest, "Tell your boyfriend that the 81st Airbourne works for me so hands OFF!"

Off topic, I know, but I really would have expected that even snapshots such as these would be taken by someone capable of holding the camera level, or at the very least, fixing such problems in photoshop later.

Every family has their problems, but it's comforting to imagine that the Obama's are *perfect*. They're certainly all beautiful.

Yes, because having a professional photographer follow them around wouldn't call out for criticism.

I think these photos are meant to be inviting and a peek into their lives, and less a chronicle of their day-to-day. I mean, it's their first day of school. That's a big event in every home.

At some point I was aware of their ages, but I had forgotten and, based on their looks had begun thinking of them as 8-ish and 14-ish. The oldest is 10 (!) and is going to be TROUBLE.

I really don't want to make too big of a deal about this, but just last week wasn't there some uproar about "pictures of the children" being taken and how important their privacy is? I don't remember nearly so many pictures of Chelsea Clinton or the Bush twins being "released" by their parents. Yes, the Bush twins found ways to have their pictures taken, but that was hardly simultaneous with "official" photos being released all the time.

It seems to me (and I'm a huge supporter, going to the Inauguration, yadda yadda) that Obama doesn't mind using his kids in his own way and I'm somewhat bothered by the double standard.

Obama should use that Flickr account to post a picture of his real birth certificate to proove he is a natural born citizen. As long as he doesn't, loyal Americans should fear a Marxist dictatorship resulting from his presidency.

Barack Hussein Obama - NOT MY PRESIDENT!

So, if we're against dynasties, do we really want them to be our future Presidents?

Why can't they be CEOs or University Professors like their parents?

Notice how their clothes are all color-coordinated with each other, their parents' clothes, and the room? Don't remember that ever happening at my house.

Lord Basil, I would like to see your birth certificate and certificate of Peerage proving that you are, in fact, a Lord.

Too much publicity, or is it just enough to keep the paparazzi at bay? Maybe all the editors out there can run with this touching, fun, endearing shot, rather than a 'behind the bushes with a telephoto lens' stalker shot. I think this is shrewd on the Obamas part---give em' just enough.

@12 ---please give me the last 8 years back....and then go back to your bunker.

@14 ---AGREED.

@ 16---they're in a hotel, the room wasn't their doing. Plus, I see brown, purple, maroon---not all 'alike'

@11 i think that every parent who is in the public eye has the right to 100% determine how much and when their children will be seen. that is precisely what these parents are doing, i don't see hypocrisy in choosing to release your own photos, while discouraging paparazzi, or even legitimate press, from trampling the privacy of minors.

what is with drama-seeking: they are exposing the babies; they are color coordinated; something diabolical must be happening, what can i make up!
