"Elderly Woman's Shoes Grow Into Her Feet"

Posted by on Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 3:06 PM

Why, why, why did I go ahead with that Google Alert for "feces"?

terribleson.jpgPORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Police said an elderly Port St. Lucie woman was so neglected by her son that her never-removed shoes had grown into her feet.

Port St. Lucie police were called to Columbia Medical Center on Saturday after paramedics found Anna Chuboff, 90, lying in the hallway of her home.

According to the police report, Chuboff told police she lived with her son, whom she said often yelled at her and uses the "F" word a lot.

Her son, Robert Rozenti, 68, was arrested and charged with neglect of an elderly person.

According to the arrest affidavit, Rozenti told police he and his mother do not have a good relationship and that he is her illegitimate son. Rozenti said he had not taken her to the hospital in two years and made no arrangements for any home nursing, stating that she takes care of herself and will not let him take care of her.

Police said her mattress had fecal stains on it that had not been cleaned, and the kitchen had limited food consisting of tomatoes, one package of sandwich meat, oatmeal and a few cans of soup.

I am sorry, unfortunate old lady, about your terrible "F"-ing son. Malnourished-permanent-feces-shoe-feet is no way to spend one's nineties. I hope you get a nice place to live now.

Every time I read one of these stories about someone's body growing into something, a couch or toilet or what have you, I wonder. Could this abiltity to grow into things -- merge with them -- could it be put to use as a force for good? Or a force for amusement? OK, I'll cut to the chase. I want claws. I want Wolverine claws and if invalids can do this thing why can't I? Am I wrong to want these things?

Oh, and people who neglect the elderly suck. We suck for being to cheap to put a stop to it.

That last paragraph perfectly described my apartment.

Why is he being charged with neglect of an elderly person? Is she his responsibility? Did he sign some contract or something?

Call me persnickety, but it seems to me that the shoes did not grow into her feet, unless they were made of some kind of living material. (Trees, perhaps? Do they make shoes out of living trees, like bonsai shoes? Maybe someone should look into that.)

Most likely, her feet grew into/around the shoes.

What's up with the names of these people? Resent-i (Rozenti), Made-off (Madoff)... seems like there must be more.

How can she possibly get a nice place to live now? She's in Florida.

Hmm, a lot of victims of elder abuse (by spouse/kids) were at one time abusive themselves. One is responsible for one's parents, just as with one's children, whether you want them or not. In Phoenix a woman was arrested for abusing her elderly father. She hadn't wanted to take care of him, but was forced to by social workers. He had abused her all throughout her childhood until she was old enough to get away and she felt she owed him nothing. The law said otherwise. She was resentful and saw nothing wrong with a little payback.

Do elderly people's feet grow? Are they like ears?

I can't help but suspect that some elderly parents who are neglected by their kids are in some way responsible. Not that they were asking for it, like in #9's example, just that they failed in raising responsible children who love their parents. Although I'm still not ruling out the occasional scenario where, despite the parents' best efforts, they still wound up raising a selfish shithead.

This is why the argument (when people hear I'm not having kids) "but who will care for you when you are old?" doesn't faze me. At least I'll know I got nobody. This son? Worse than nobody.

Uh, 68 can be pretty old too...

Your body is constantly reproducing cells, so it is entirely possible that a shoe (or couch or toilet) could grow into a human appendage. Or more like the human appendage would grow into the object.

But seriously, no one deserves to be treated like that at such a ripe old age. Really sad and painful, for all involved.

@9 - How can they FORCE someone to take care of their elderly parent? Both people are adults in that situation, and as I understand it the daughter could just refuse the responsibility, as long as she didn't mind possibly being looked down on by her community for it.
