The Boston Globe's always incredible Big Picture blog posted their favorite shots from 2008 in a series of posts last week - part 1, part 2, part 3.

Thanks, great photos and I like that they're nice and BIG. Seriously, too many great photos get cropped/resized down to nothing and it really limits the impact.

Brutal picture. Could very well be on the cover of 1984 - it reminds me of the passage predicting the future of humanity ("If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.") There's no boot, of course, but the idea of total annihilation of personal identity (the face) under brutal violence is right there.

Also, this photo blog tells you what you're looking at. Photo blogs that just show photos without context or explanation are annoying.

Yeah, thanks for posting that--tremendous photos, all. My favorites are the first and last in part 1, and the moon fly-by sequence in part 3.

thank you, as well. it's on my monthly list of sites to visit (alongside icanhascheezburger), but sometimes many moths pass. beautiful, stunning, and horrific pics.
