Reading Tonight

Posted by Paul Constant on Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:12 AM

Tale-Title.gifThere are no readings tonight.

Instead, you should read A Tale of a Tub, by Jonathan Swift. Swift was awesome, and Gulliver's Travels, even without the proper historical perspective, is hilarious.

Tub is about three brothers, each representing a different type of Christianity. It goes on from there.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

After Gulliver's Travels and some of the poetry, Tale of the Tub is the best Swift. Recall Yeats' translation of Swift's epitaph

Swift has sailed into his rest
Savage indignation there
Cannot lacerate his breast;
Imitate him if you dare
World-besotted traveler:
He served human liberty.
