Popular Actor Defends Dead Actor by Mocking Nameless Comedian

US Magazine has the story:

According to a witness at the No on H8 show at The Improv in Hollywood on Dec. 16, Twilight star Robert Pattinson, 22, booed a comic who said, "Here's my impression of Heath Ledger," then collapsed and began faking convulsions. "Robert and his friend went nuts yelling at him," the source tells Us Weekly. "[Pattinson screamed] fuck you! You suck!"

Pro-gay-marriage and anti-crap-comedy? That's the kind of "hot new star!" I can get behind. (And not in a dirty way, you pervs. Robert Pattison's a fetus compared to the type of man I appreciate.)

Also, props to US Magazine and various other news outlets for steadfastly refusing to name the offending comedian, who deserves all the anonymity he gets.

I second that. Now if only you had sway over choosing Stranger cover models...

Well the comic could be seen as making a name for himself from Ledgers death. But then the actor could be an opportunist too by creating a stink which he new damn well would be printed. If this was someone that was not famous then it would not have been mentioned. But I think Pattinson knows the ropes and grasped the moment just like Tom Cruse does and Brad Pitt when they have movies out and want to boost their fame with a little controversy.
I am not saying the comedian is right I am just saying celebrities know how to jump into the spotlight by grasping the moment and turning the attention on themselves and in this case making a point.
In this case Pattison aligns himself with Ledger and points out something tasteless it is a win win situation for him since he knows he is being watched all the time by the media.

And the "according to a witness" bit suggests props may also be due to Pattinson's press agent - this story has finally eclipsed the media furor over Pattinson cutting short his signature hairdo.

B: Exactly, Pattison's is some exemplary star behavior.

What a fucking awful joke...(and this is coming from someone who did a couple of minutes of material on Ledger having died THE DAY HE DIED.)

Bad taste is one thing--you can laugh at bad taste (in fact, dear Mr. Schmader has a wonderful side business in doing just that)...but one shouldn't laugh at something so lazy, unoriginal and unfunny...

One shouldn't laugh...but I'm sorry, I can't go so far as to champion some drunk or tweaking (allegedly) self-important Hollywood wannabe who has no specific ties to Mr. Ledger taking it upon himself to let everyone know how offended his blurry sensibilities might be...

...and certainly not when it is quite likely that this story has been leaked by his PR people for his promotional benefit.

If you're at a comedy club (as this was...at a benefit show for opposing Prop 8, no less)...and you don't like a joke...DON'T LAUGH.

The silence is far more painful and devastating to that comic on stage than any drunken bullshit you might think is warranted or oh so clever and demands that you shout it out.

I see no winners in this scenario...especially since David's getting no satisfaction from his boy crush here.

What a fucking hypocrite! He stars in a propaganda movie written by devout Mormon Stephanie Meyer and then attends a No on H8 show. 10% of what Meyer makes from the film will go back into attacking gays. Maybe someone should be yelling the same thing at Pattinson?

Just remember, the highest viewing usage of gay porn and highest place for people searching for the term "men kissing" is in Utah ...

Just because you're not hetero doesn't mean you can't hate non-heteros.

Or sparkle vampires who are clueless.

What do you think the percent of people who call him "Keith Ledger" is.

I'd say around 45 percent.

7: Thanks for your passion, but it must be noted that Pattinson signed his Twilight contract long before the Mormon's unholy alliance with Prop 8 was born.

And PG at 6 makes a good point: Jokes about dead Heath Ledger aren't all worthy of disdain, just the lame and shitty ones.

If the dude really wanted to do a funny Heath Ledger impersonation, he would have either:

1. Threw a white sheet over his head, with holes cut out for eyes, and given ghost Heath Ledger's posthumous Oscar acceptance speech
or
2. Physically decomposed onstage

If Pattinson hadn't signed up to do those movies, certainly they never would've been made and Meyer wouldn't have made any money (other than the not inconsiderable sum she received for the rights to the books) off of those movies.

And what Schmader said @10.

Actor-worship is stupid. Cf. John Wayne.

Ledger sucked, but that joke sucked more.

Way to go, humanity.
