Packing Teachers

Posted by on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 11:03 AM

Found in a review of the oddest news stories in 08...

GUN-TOTING TEACHERS: It was a story tailor-made for Texas. A rural school board near the Oklahoma border quietly approved a policy allowing teachers to tote concealed firearms while in school. While it might make students think twice about throwing spitballs, it also made a few uncomfortable. "It was kind of awkward knowing that some teachers were carrying guns," one student said.
To play with a line from The Sopranos, a Texas principle to a teacher: "Next time you walk into a classroom, I want you to put on some weight."

Sounds perfectly acceptable. Law abiding citizens who happen to be teachers will have the necessary effect of keeping schools safe. No longer will brazen thugs posing as high school kids have the audacity to "run the school".

All teachers who are properly trained and legally qualified to carry concealed should have the absolute right to do so. Heck I'd even offer that at least 2 faculty visibly carry a taser strapped to their hips.

The resulting visible deterrent would noticeably make those schools safer.

Who cares what the kids think is "awkward". They are minors and their "thoughts" shouldn't matter. They don't have the capacity to comprehend complete depth of thought, hence their reduced ability to have rights.

All this bullshit PC crap that this country has had to bend over for is ridiculous.

Criminals don't bother following laws when they are intent on committing crimes. They will bring a gun into a school whether or not it is "legal". Schools and the people that inhabit them have become sitting defenseless ducks for those THUGS who brazenly have no fear due to "gun free zones" and have learned that school shootings will make them famous.

Anyone think that any of those teachers in Columbine wished they had the means to defend themselves when the door was being kicked in? Wouldn't you want that ability if you were the teacher in that situation? Is doing something better than doing nothing?

Teenagers are perfectly capable of rational thought. Whether you are, however, is still very much debatable.

Got to admit that I agree with this. Schools are a haven for gun toting outlaws. It is always a good thing to keep these thugs in check.

Sounds reasonable. Teachers are for the most part somewhat responsible. They all have background checks. You can't teach if you have been convicted of as a felony. Every school should have at least two well trained and armed teachers. Better safe than sorry.

The Saprano line was: "Next time you come in here, you come heavy or you don't come at all."
