Feminism Conquers All

Posted by Jonah Spangenthal-Lee on Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 4:46 PM

Congratulations to vooodooo84's Rightwing Feminists, the first ever All-Slog 2008 Fantasy Football Thunderdome League of Champions™, erm, champion.

The AS08FFTLoC turned out to be a bit of a disaster (see my regret here) but I learned a few things:

Yahoo's fantasy football site can eat a bag of dicks: It's terrible, ugly and doesn't give you live scoring updates unless you shell out $10. Feh.

Know your enemy: I never managed to set up an AS08FFTLoC meetup. I know, I'm an asshole. It probably would've been more fun know to who I was playing each week.

Auto drafting can also eat a bag of dicks: I never, ever, ever should've gone with an auto draft. It made everything unbalanced and allowed at least one team to have a ridiculously overloaded roster (it wasn't vooodooo's team). Also, I came in seventh, which is horseshit.

And finally,

Thou shalt not attempt to manage teams in three different leagues: It's maddening. Don't ever do this.

Perhaps I'll try again next year. Maybe I can get Dan involved since he's paying attention to the NFL now.

autodraft? Half the fun is the draft. That was a bush league mistake.

Dear Jonah,

We forgive you.

But, I'm curious, who had an overloaded roster? I thought it was very balanced, with 8 out of 12 teams within 100 pts of the leader. And, the team with the best regular season only managed 3rd place in the playoffs. The lowest scoring team, Tight Ends, took Josh Brown in the 1st round, so that's not even worth comparing. Bottom line, the parity was good.

I do agree that auto-drafting totally sucks the big one, but it will probably be more imbalanced with a live draft, as the more skilled players will dominate. Especially if I am invited back. Zing!

Love,
New Orleans Taints

I kind of felt like part of the problem was all the injuries and other things, like oh hurricanes and shit that made it a bit difficult from week to week to field a team. Sure, I sucked and ended up in last place, but I achieved my goal which was learning to play fantasy football. I'll do things differently next year if we do it again (though giving up Josh Brown might be hard for me...) However, I do ding you for not scheduling at least one meet-up for us because I was looking forward to some of Mikki's football shaped edibles.

I may be the last place loser but I think my team name and picture was the best, so there.

Kisses,
The Tight Ends

@4 - PopTart, you didn't even finish in last! 10th out of 12, and you managed to go 5-9. That's parity for you, which is why I asked what Jonah meant about overloaded rosters.

My advice for you next year: Pick a running back in the 1st round! Josh Brown will still be available in the 10th round.

And tell me that the New Orleans Taints don't have the best team logo!

If you can't manage 3 FF teams, you shouldn't be playing fantasy in the first place. Let me in the league next year, and you'll learn a thing or two.
