So cute (and retrograde!) when they try to dispense relationship advice.

I read this just to see how bad it was. (Pretty bad. And dumb). I was glad to see so many of the comments on the CNN site agreed with me but I don't think anyone mentioned the obvious: what if your daugher is a lesbian? Then what? (CNN comments are turned off so I couldn't add this.)

So I'm totally in love with this guy, and, like, I'm not sure if he loves me too, but I'm, like, not allowed to tell him I love him, so I'm gonna, like, propose instead, because cnn told me that I'm allowed to.

This is extremely good advice for some subset of people who have consistently blurted out I love you too early in the past. If you haven't had that problem, then maybe it doesn't apply.

daniel's right, but don't wait to say it until she's preggers like Palin's son-in-law did ...

My biggest problem with that advice is that "I love you" does not have to be reciprocated. I have had it said to me, said, "Thank you" or somesuch, later said "I love you", and the relationship kept (and, in one case, keeps!) on growing.

It's like with sex: the expectation of a simultaneous orgasm (or "I love you") is wrong-headed. As with orgasms, this should be true for subsequent "I love you"s as well.

It's not good advice for ALL straight women, but it's good for many. Especially the ones who turn to CNN for their relationship advice. Or is the problem that CNN even has a relationship columnist? Now I'm confused. Does this mean that having a relationship columnist hurts journalistic credibility or something?

Are there people who are actually upset by this? Get some fucking perspective.

well I get why ECB isn't freaking the fuck out about it being sexist... the article is written by a WOMAN... but I guarantee that is a man wrote this article she'd be all "This is sexist drivel straight from 1954 and I'm going to write a brick of text about it!!!!!11!!"

ecb aside, this is good advice for the type of stupid person who would read relationship advice from CNN and take it seriously.
