Illinois Deserves a Little Less Taint

Posted by Eli Sanders on Tue, Dec 30, 2008 at 3:28 PM

So sayeth the president-elect, responding to the latest in Blagojevich crazy:

Roland Burris is a good man and a fine public servant, but the Senate Democrats made it clear weeks ago that they cannot accept an appointment made by a governor who is accused of selling this very Senate seat. I agree with their decision, and it is extremely disappointing that Governor Blagojevich has chosen to ignore it.

I believe the best resolution would be for the Governor to resign his office and allow a lawful and appropriate process of succession to take place. While Governor Blagojevich is entitled to his day in court, the people of Illinois are entitled to a functioning government and major decisions free of taint and controversy.

Isn't that always how it goes? The formerly taint-mongered becoming a taint-mongerer himself...

I wouldn't be backing ANYBODY out of Chicago right now. There is no telling what will come out about whose who and who is tied to who in the future and being linked to endorsing individuals is dangerous -- especially against Republicans who are foaming at the mouth to make tainted connections.

Illinois should just lose that Senate seat altogether. Where is it written that every single state is like absolutely required to have two Senators anyway?

#3 dickwit - US Constitution

It is funny that this guy becomes a bit of a folk hero - damn the media and all the others - I am innocent until proven guilty and I am still the elected Gov. - interesting he does not like trial by media

A federal judge will decide in the end

And if his nominee is qualified, what is the rub? Power games all over the place

The guy tried to run for the Senate in 84 but lost miserably. So why should he be in the Senate if he couldn't get the votes the first time around?

Obama just basically cockblocked Blago.

The Dems are making a mistake. The Governor is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Until then he has every right to do his duty as Governor. That includes appointing a Senator. They simply can't say who can be seated and who cannot. This is Harry Reid at his worst!
