Disagreeing Without Being Disagreeable

Posted by on Tue, Dec 23, 2008 at 2:10 PM

rickwarren_2.jpg

The very Rev. Rick Warren says "evil" gays are "afraid of Christians"—it's not like we don't have cause—and that the gays suffer from "Christ-o-phobia." Presumably even the Christian gays suffer from Christ-o-phobia. That should lay this Rick Warren controversy to rest! All better now!

You can watch Warren's very agreeable comments about the gays here. And is it just me... or does Rick Warren look like every third member of every gay men's chorus in the country?

Does he have a chin, or multiple chins?

Inquiring evil gays want to know.

Dan, he's not a role model for anybody - that's the point - he's a typical mainstream Christianist bigot, and represents Christianist bigots everywhere. Hopefully they will get on board this crazy train to ex-bigotville.

So by all means, keep pointing out how small-minded he is. Just don't forget that his views are shared by a majority of our country, and that majority doesn't go away when you don't invite them to your parties.

Yes, let's pay more and more and more and more and more attention to him. And more! Anita Bryant went away because of delayed shock over how much attention people paid her, not because people started ignoring all the crazy stuff she said regarding gay people.

Wow.
The guy makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for the heads up, Dan.

So, apropos of your earlier post: What clear, achievable goals are advanced by pursuing Warren-gate? What do you get if you win?

His mouth looks like an anus with teeth.

It is funnier that every third member of every gay men's chorus picked that look first. On purpose.

Nothing like treating your body as a temple like God says you should by completely disgracing it and becoming a nasty fatass, Mr. Warren

actually, he says no such thing. those words do appear in the video, but not in that sequence, nor that context.

i hate evangelical christianity with unrivaled passion, but this is getting a little silly. you are making something out of next-to-nothing, and in the process proving everything he says about bloggers and the media to be true. if you can't be intellectually honest, than just let it go. you're making us all look stupid.

By order of the Order of Ursa Major, the High Bear Council, this man is hearby not to be associated with or referred to in any positive light as a bear or bear-like. Any membear shall be ejected from the Order should they be found to be harboring information of any association Warren has had with them or other membears or if they have knowledge of any pertinent online profiles (such as Bear411 or Bearciti). This is non-negotiable.

The more I look at him the more I pray that the folks who proclaim him an overcompensating closet case are indeed right.

Ugh.

I suppose it's just me, but doesn't he sound like he's back peddling a bit?

And yes, he spouts the standard BS about homosexuality being a choice and "redefining marriage", but he seems to be ok with civil unions as long as they aren't called "marriage".

Well, if it's just a matter of semantics, seems like we could make some legal progress by playing their stupid word game and agreeing, for the time being, to call gay marriage by another term.

I know it is a little cliche to accuse a gay hater of being a closet case, but for crying out loud, THIS time it is sofa king true.

(P)Rick Warren = total fag

At this rate, WARREN is going to be the one saying that first we laughed at him, then we fought him, then he won.

He said nothing about "evil" gays or evil people, even. He called certains remarks evil -- and when he's being called a fatass left and right, he's got plenty of defense for saying people are being hateful toward him.

And, based on the video I saw of him with Beliefnet, he didn't compare gay relationships to pedophilia. He said what he said here: none of them are marriage worthy if marriahe means only one thing.

The fact is, he comes off as a sane, thoughtful dude and people calling him a fatass come off as anything but. We need to get this, and press him on a few topics, civilly: how much less steeped in sin is homosexuality than incest? Is there a gradation? A scale? And since he's involved in the battle to preserve the definition of marriage, but loves gays, what specific protections would he exhort all Christians to grant gays? What name would he suggest, if not marriage, for these protections? And finally, if homosexual attraction is as old as marriage -- which it is -- is it possible, under any circumstances, that gays could be prudentially incorporated only into the civil definition of marriage?

These are reasonable questions. He should have to answer the, instead of all of us wasting time by having him answer for things he never said.

MSM is a douche fucktard asshat. Oops - there I go again, being "disagreeable." (Because as everyone knows, being disagreeable doesn't mean comparing gays to pedophiles, or banning them from your church if they don't repent; it means having a potty mouth.)

@MSM
Don't use logic and make too much sense on SLOG. The few (the majority here) will claim your an apologist

Bottom line: he's feeling the pressure and he's going to cave. Either become more civilized or return to the rightist ghetto from whence he arose. I say the former because the lure of power will be just too great. So keep up the pressure.

@MSM and Apologist. Rick Warren and his fellow travelers beat up on gays because gays are a tiny minority and because Rick and his pals are bullies and need enemies to justify their holy crusade. Jesus said that the divorced may not remarry (except in case of adultery), yet Warren and his like are happy to perform second marriages. Jesus said nothing about gays, but Warren et al. get all jumpy about gays, denying them marriage and even membership in their church. This is not a matter of scripture, or interpretation, or anything but pure bigotry. Warren will never face up to this. Never. So enjoy being his apologist. Merry Christmas!

Okay, I am finally going to share the word my partner of 24 years and I say regularly to describe them:
We call them ChristFuckers.
Ooh. is that bad? And if it is, should we really care what you think?

Seems like the label "Christophobic" is at least as logical as "homophobic". I think that both are pretty silly.

Obama has a peculiar taste in preachers...after the Jeremiah Wright debacle, you'd think he'd go with someone without an axe to grind. Rick Warren is a clown.

Actually you better describe the motivations of homosexual activist, constantly scrounging up minutia and tidbits to post here to keep GayNation frothing at the mouth about the fundies.

Thanks for sharing,
Mark (in Colorado!).
It's not bad-
just sad and pathetic.
Do you use the "N" word also?
(please don't give a second thought to what we think, however you might work on cultivating some self-respect and dignity)
btw next time you feel an exibitionist (oops- 'sharing') urge please come on down!!

UGH!! Another fat guy with a goatee. Don't they realize a goatee doesn't make you look smart or sophisticated, it just draws attention to your fat face.

#7, you are right, but I might add the balls look like its been two weeks since shaving.

If you can tolerate watching the videos to the end, Warren goes into a sales pitch at the end of the 2nd one. Saddleback also has a .com web site, which means that they're not a non-profit entity, right? Makes me think of the part of the Bible where Jesus throws the money changers out of the church.....
